Rockin' Boston-based singer/songwriter with influences from Hank Williams to the Pixies.

notes

Silver City, the debut album from Sarah Borges, is a stunning set of songs that explores American music in all its many aspects. You'll hear everyone from Hank Williams to The Pixies in Borges' songs but it never sounds forced. Legendary producer Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Uncle Tupelo, Hole) pulls it all together into a muscular, rocking sound that has a sometimes surprisingly tender core.

So fine Sarah Thank you for all your hard work. I'm sorry to have missed your show at Fireflys but will be at Johnny D's on the 31st. All This Weight is a truly unique tune . i love your use of the Tele in lead. I play one as well and it'sc hard not to get that ax to sound bright vall the time. I'm Going to Live the Life I Sing About in My s is very complex in both lyrics and music. I understand your new CD will feature some new style of indie/? and I can't wait to see what's in store on the 31st at Johnny D's in Somerville. I hope to get a sec to say hi to you, Binky, Dave and whoever might try to fill Mikes slot. Sorry this review isn't more comprehensive but I'm new to your tunes and overwhelmed by all your work. I'll write more later. Surfice it to say that after downloading a couple of tunes at itunes (yes pay bthe $ artists deserve the pay for their work, screw Limewire etc. that is stealing, if Saraha was to give away her work then how could Binky afford Arby's sandwiches on tour let alone warm beer. He sleeps in the van for God's sake. You guys get hot meals, warm beds, and I'll find a venue here in southern VT now that Middle Earth seems to be closed. you are a world class act. (the video tour diary was not boring Binky0 It was great insight into bands of your stature and hoe they make it work. How about Ironhorse in Northampton MA. This really is not a review. The entire CD is 10+++ and everything else is too. Fans check out the utube catalouge. See you soon Morgan PS how about you and Eilen Jewell as a bill??/

  • La fille de Lucinda Williams !
    author: Alain DELRIEU

Excellent album, entre rock, blues et folk du meilleur cru. La fille cachée de Neil Young et Lucinda Williams. Sa marraine est sûrement PJ Harvey !!! Bravo Sarah, l'avenir t'appartient. Alain (Strasbourg, France)

  • I love Sarah

I saw Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles in December of last year at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston. They opened for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. They were so good that I wondered whether Grace and the boys could top it. I bought Diamonds in the Dark while exiting the concert and LOVED it. Silver City proves that Sarah and her boys are no fluke. It is a great CD. I am going to tell upcoming generations that I saw her when...

  • Fresh sound!
    author: Butch

I really like the sounds - unlike other music on the radio these days. I heard one of SB & the BS' songs on local college radio and bought both CDs. Silver City arrived first, and it's been in my CD player since. Interesting stories make for interesting songs on this CD.

  • A totally incredible CD!

Each song on this CD is awesome! I've had to purchase 3 copies of the CD. Each time I lend the CD out, the person refuses to give it back. She's that good!

  • Fabulous

I heard Sarah and the band for the first time last summer, bought the CD that night, and have been hooked ever since.

  • An album with no filler
    author: Gary

I saw Sarah at the Hillside Music Festival and had to get her cd since it sold out. It has quickly become one of my favourites and also a rare album where all the songs are great. Can't wait for another album or a visit to Toronto.

  • great cd
    author: Trent

Sarah gives a high energy live performance and even though this is a studio album that energy comes through loud and clear. Smart lyrics and fantastic guitar.

  • Can't wait till a live album.

It was really good! I heard it first on XM Live. I was so impressed I bought it immediately. I guess I was expecting the quality's of "Live Sound", "Raw"! Still impressed but really would love a "Live Album". Kevin, Scottdale, AZ.

Absolutely amazing!! Love the music and the sound of her voice! very fresh! If you've never seen her playing live, you MUST!! there's no effort on her side when she sings, it just comes out so natural it makes me jealous! :-)

  • Great roots album
    author: Ed Goodstein

Very solid fine stuff-- memorable songs & a compelling roots rock/blues/alt. country voice IMO. And there's some edge to her material a bit like Amy Rigby even at times, as well as Joy Lynn White & Bonnie Raitt. Very accomplished debut I think.
