notes
Jackson Hole’s own Boondocks is proud to announce the release of their debut disc, “Live at the Silver Dollar” (Gros Ventre River Records/2007), a fourteen-track collection of original tunes as well as obscure and familiar American roots songs. The live recording was tracked January 19-20, 2007 at the historic Silver Dollar Bar in the Wort Hotel in Jackson, Wyoming and showcases their tight vocal harmony, intricate instrumentation, and dynamic stage performance that drifts from slow and soulful to rollicking and rowdy.
Boondocks formed in spring 2006 as a five-piece band delivering a blend of country-blues, Americana, rock, electro-grass, Western Swing, and roots music that’s as comfortable as an old rocking chair, yet authentically their own. Songwriters Margo Valiante and Aaron Davis contribute several homegrown songs, carving a contemporary perspective on American roots music. The chemistry of band members from very diverse backgrounds is a testament to the spirit of the music.
Valiante recently received Honorable Mention from the judges of the Telluride Troubadour Songwriting Competition, a highly regarded contest held annually at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Harmonica player John Kuzloski was recently recognized by Bluegrass Now Magazine, describing his "righteous harmonica playing" on Anne and Pete Sibley’s album “Will you Walk With Me.” And Davis recently had one of his songs selected for the television series Road Trip Nation, which will also be featured online at MSN.com.
Boondocks has experienced unfortunate health problems and injuries in their rhythm section this summer. Drummer Andy Peterson broke his hand in a mountain bike accident, and bassist Bryan Perkes had emergency brain surgery, twice. But with lots of positive vibes and a miraculous recovery, Bryan is fully recovered and playing with us once again and Andy will be healthy soon too. Thanks to Marshall Davis (of Mandatory Air) who filled the bass spot for a month while Bryan was out. Jason Baggett (of One Ton Pig & Mandatory Air) continues to fill in on drums. It’s been fun playing with those guys.
Boondocks is:
Margo Valiante – acoustic guitar, vocals
Aaron Davis – electric guitar, slide, mandolin, vocals
John Kuzloski – harmonica, vocals
Bryan Perkes – upright and electric bass, vocals
