notes
The Bookdrop Bees' debut album, Little Life, reveals the nooks and crannies concealed within the lucid writing of band members, Ilan and Gemma Halfi. Around every corner lie allusions to mortality, unrequited love, and the weight of our fears. It's not all dark, however. In fact, the 12 songs on Little Life prominently reflect the Bookdrop Bees' easy charm and poignant blend of autumnal vocals and rousing acoustic guitar.
The album was recorded, mixed, and produced in typical do-it-yourself fashion in an atypical locale: their apartment resides in the midst of a dormitory at an all-girls private high school.
Influenced by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Ben Folds, Aimee Mann, Ani DiFranco, and Phish, the married duo have penned truly graceful, poetic narratives here. Standout tracks such as Tilt and Nightbloom convey big ideas by zooming in on contextual personal details. There is a hypnotic quality to Little Life that can inspire warm introspection, especially on those chilly and placid November evenings.

A great album. This is what music is all about.
author: The Masked RyeThis CD is an excellent first offering from this musical duo. The majority of the album is simply guitar, vocals and great production work. The lyrics are well done, the guitar well thought out. "October Sunday", "Nightbloom" and "So Glad We Did This" are amazing sweet introspectives, while "Tilt" pulls in a more acoustic pop feel. Songs range from poignant and personal to whimsical, light and flirty. Beware The Bookdrop Bees... once you hear them, you'll become instant fans.
