VENTNOR, NJ (March 08) Guitarist Bob Sterling's CD "Pier Pressure" delivers riveting solos and melodic interludes, punctuated by crisp rhythms and high energy arrangements, bound together by a supporting cast of accomplished and renown musicians, featuring George Mesterhazy on keyboards, Wade Matthews fretted and fretless bass, and Bob Farina on drums and percussion. The band's execution of the intricate melodies that Sterling has created is remarkable. The music was written by Sterling with Mesterhazy, Matthews, and Farina contributing to the arrangements. The CD was recorded at Giant Steps Recording Studio in Absecon,N.J. by owner Vic Stevens and assistant Bob Kimmel, and was mixed and produced in Washington, DC at Murphy Studios by Matthews, and co-produced by Sterling and engineer Steve Murphy.
The band, which has just released their 2nd CD, a gem of original compositions entitled "Essence of Freedom", will perform concerts and jazz festivals throughout the summer. Sterling has performed at The Performing Arts Center at Stockton State College, Blues Alley, an outdoor concert with Rick Derringer, Jill West and Blues Attack and The Radiators, and most recently Dante Hall in Atlantic City, and The Somers Point Winter Jazz Series.
Joining Bob on stage are some of the finest musicians in the area. They are Bob Farina on drums, Bryan Berthold on percussion, Jon Pruitt on keyboards, and Ken Joniec on bass.
Sterling's music and stage credits include opening for, or playing with everyone from Billy Eckstein, Bill Cosby, Dionne Warwick, Frank Stallone, Billy Fellows, Lou Rawls, Clint Holmes, Wayne Newton, to Jerry Lewis, Henny Youngman, Milton Berle, Phyliss Diller, Joan Rivers, and countless other big name acts that have visited Atlantic City's casinos. He's worked the clubrooms of the South Jersey bar scene of yesteryear (read "The Melody Lounge" and "Tony Mart's" back in the late seventies and early eighties). It was back in those days that Sterling knew he wanted to cut his own stuff.
"I just knew that I had some songs that you can really groove to, and I'm glad I was able to record with such great musicians. I am very proud of my compositions" Said Sterling. "People do seem to really like them. That's very cool. I hope the feedback is as positive for "Essence of Freedom" as it has been for "Pier Pressure" He added.

Bob Does It Again!! Jazz Player of the Month!!!
author: Neil Pearl - Screaming Cat Studio (Calif. USA)Bob Sterling's playing never ceases to amaze me. He demonstrates great mastery of subtle, soft spken jazzy changes, along with the capability to raise goose bumps through the use of nearly atonal twisting melody lines. All the while, he never sounds contrived or "formula". It's just pure emotion. You can tell Bob has been playing long enough that "text book" changes and riffs are no longer part of his vocabulary, but the guitar is merely a conduit from emotion to loudspeaker. Combined with a first rate band, this CD is our selection for "Jazz Player of the Month". Buy this CD. You will not be disappointed....
Totally awesome sonic treat that makes your heart skip a beat!
author: Jazzsurfer IndustriesAn unrecognized talent is a talent none the less. Pier Pressure is sure to join the peer group of Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, and the other "Great Ones"! Complex writing, intricate phrasing, facinating rhythms, and to top it all off Pier Pressure proves that at least one guitarist lives who can prove beautiful melodies can coexist with hip, driving fusion grooves. Bravo!
Fresh fusion from the Jersey Shore
author: Susan Van DongenWhat a pleasure to hear tight, progressive sounds coming from the Jersey Shore. It's been awhile since I've heard such fresh fusion. Can't think of anyone in particular to compare the sound with, so it must be original. I am especially pleased that this is the work of a fellow shore native and am enjoying the cover shot of the Ventnor fishing pier. The new album is uplifting and above all, real music and musicianship in a time of sampling, lip-synching and computer-enhancement.
Pier Pressure Jams!
