notes
Bob Pyle is the Founder of the Baltimore-Washington Songwriter's Association, which has produced three compilation recordings. This is Bob's first full-length solo CD.
Bob Pyle has been a songwriter and performer for over 25 years. He is also an award-winning old-time banjo player. He has had several novelty songs played on major market radio stations on the east coast, such as The Story of Steven L. Miles, which is a parody of TV lawyers. The Baltimore Sun newspaper has reported that Bob Pyle's songs have achieved a "cult following".
This CD, Apples & Oranges, has taken four and a half years to complete. It makes use of some the area's finest musicians including Bluegrass legend DeDe Wyland and musical virtuoso Billy Kemp, who also co-produced the album. Concert violinist, Janice Martin, even plays her genuine 1708 Stradivarius violin on eleven of the twelve songs!
The album's first cut, A World Made Out of Spam, is a catchy novelty tune which recently seems to have acquired a double meaning, as our e-mail boxes will attest! The second song, When They Close the Golden Arches, is a humorous ballad about the perils of eating at McDonald's. The title track, Apples & Oranges, is an amusing 5-minute journey on a horse-pulled apple cart. All songs have been given equal attention and meticulous production.
Bob Pyle, on Apples and Oranges, mixes old time string band music, humorous lyrics, and exquisite production to create an album with a message of social relevance concerning the foods we choose to eat!

APPLES & ORANGES
author: CAROLYNBob is one of two of my favorite artists. As an ARAs myself, I can't get through my week w/o this CD. Yes, it is humorous, but the message is very serious, and encourages all to a higher consciousness (and IQ) w/regard to how one sees non humans. There will come a day when humankind will look back on their treatment of non humans and think HOW? How did we ever think that it was OK to eat or wear them? How did we ever think that it was OK to experiment on them or beat and stab them to force them to entertain us? This time will come...just as we now have to look back with disgust as to how blacks, women, etc. were viewed....as less than...
Great CD

I've been restored is a hoot!
author: Harry H. Snyder IIIAnyone who ever had to sit through the origional in church will appriciate the humor of "I've been restored"
I'm having my mind changed
author: Alex (just another guy) ParishI purchased this based on the delightful, if very short, quote on the Farmer's Insurance TV ad. Imagine my surprise to find not so much early Americana, but a politically punctuated vegan manifesto!. After a few plays, however, some very catchy tunes have taken hold, my kids absolutely adore it, and my heart still soars during the harmonies on "I Have Been Restored". I haven't given up shoe leather or pot roast (yet), but am eagerly looking forward to vol II. Bob- would you include a bit more of your "ol' timey sound" on your next production?
A masterpiece from a cleaver and wonderful songwriter.
author: Georgie JessupBob Pyle was smart to work with a great producer in Billy Kemp at Ala Carte Studios in Laytonsville, MD. But unless the songs are there no producer can work their magic! I played my copy over and over for at least three days straight before I gave it a brief rest. I just can't get enough of Gentle Creatures, I've Been Restored, Down on the Farm, and Factory Style, not to mention the wonderful suite, the title cut, Apples And Oranges. I can't wait for the next one!!!! Do yourself a favor pick up this CD it's worth every penny and the effort will be a reward for your ears and heart! ...and check Billy Kemp if you're ever in the DC/Baltimore area www.billykemp.com or www.willbilly.com.
