A cross between Dr. John, Ray Charles, Professor Longhair and Billy Joel, Malone is intensely funny and an awesome blues/jazz piano player. “Though mostly compared to New Orleans characters like Dr. John, Bob Malone sounds more like a cross between Delbert McClinton and John Hiatt. He portrays the likeable rascal, raising hell with a twinkle in his eye, like McClinton, yet his songs are so well written, he's in Hiatt's league as a scribe. Surprised? Don't be. The only question I have is: why isn't this man on a major label?

His 1997 release, The Darkest Part Of The Night, recorded in a single blowout session with a nine piece band and no overdubs, is the record that Little Feat have been trying to make for years. His raucous piano style drives home hilarious stomps like "I Know He's Your Husband (But He Don't Know That I'm Your Man)" and "It Took An Older Woman (To Make A Man Out Of Me)". Has this sort of thing been done before? Of course. Is it being done better by anyone else? Nope. Oh, by the way, Malone also finds time to arrange all the horn charts himself. Busy fellow.

Yet Malone is more than just a chest thumper. Pretty piano ballads like the road weary "Gold Rush Inn" and "Where My Heart Will Be Found" show a sensitive side, and a man with a gift for crafting tender melody lines. This talent is rare today. In any style.

Los Angeles based BOB MALONE plays over 100 shows a year all over the world, and he has opened for and/or played with The Neville Brothers, Rev. Al Green, Boz Scaggs, Vonda Shepard, Arlo Guthrie, and many others. He was featured as a “One to Watch” artist on NPR’s Acoustic Cafe, as well as being on a Performing Songwriter Magazine Best of DIYs compilation CD. His music has been featured on Car Talk, and TV shows Dr. Phil, The Rachel Ray Show, Jag, and All My Children. “Born Too Late,” is being played on over 300 NPR and Adult Album Alternative radio stations, including steady rotation at XM Satellite Radio’s Bluesville and The Village.     There's fine line as deep as the Grand Canyon that separates all the really great professional musicians and brilliant wannabes from the handfull of working cats like Bob Malone, and this CD is a primer on that distinction. The vast majority of successful musicians have got "the goods" and have learned how to show them off with the requisite pizzaz. Bob Malone never goes that route. He's hellbent on entertaining every listener. Whether he's live or in the studio, his focus never wavers. He's playing for YOU, and you feel it in every song. If you don't laugh at "I Know He's Your Husband" and tap your toes to "One Foot On the Gas," then someone left a black hole in your soul. But for everyone else in the known universe, you'll LOVE this CD!

    This CD is fantastic. The songs have clever, and often moving, lyrics. The melodies stay with you; you'll find yourself humming them days after listening to the CD. My husband and I found it so great that we purchased a second copy so that we can keep one in each car.
