notes
yeah yeah yeah another singer songwriter...
but wait! chabot is worth a listen. employing traditional sounds and instruments with a contemporary flair, chabot explores the human condition from a perspective unlike others you may have heard. his subjects are kids and grandmothers, coyotes and car phones, witches and wild trees that hold court deep in the forest. his heroes show courage in the face of disaster, hope in the face of despair, and wonder and joy in everyday life.
chabot has performed in clubs, coffee houses and festivals throughout new york and new england. he was featured on the fast folk musical magazine, and was a member of the legendary songwriters’ exchange in greenwich village.
three times in the last four years, bob performed at the kerrville folk festival in kerrville, texas, an annual 18-day festival which many consider to be the premier songwriting event in the country. in 2000, bob performed as a finalist in kerrville’s prestigious new folk competition.
in 2001 and again in 2003 bob returned to kerrville, each time appearing as one of ten songwriters chosen to play in the 1st and 2nd semi-annual “music to life” concerts. music to life was created and hosted by noel paul stookey in an effort to raise social and political awareness. bob’s songs "snowfall" (in 2001) and "i’m not gonna say my name" (in 2003) were chosen by a panel of judges which included peter, paul and mary, christine lavin, tom chapin, tom paxton, and cheryl wheeler. for "i’m not gonna say my name" chabot received the honor of first runner-up. each performance was released on a limited edition concert cd, "music to life" (volumes I and II), available through the public domain foundation.
in 2002 chabot released a the 5-song cd on a farm with a pond and a goat. songs from the disc have since been featured on folk radio programs throughout new england.
in october 2003, chabot had a regional hit single with "too long on the mound (some last words for grady little)", a folk ballad that recounts the tale of the boston red sox’ collapse in game 7 of the american league championship series against the new york yankees. the song was played on folk and mainstream radio stations throughout new england.
on stage, bob accompanies himself on guitar, mandolin and harmonicas. he plays regularly in the northampton, ma., area. he is presently at work on his second album.
