notes
I met Jerry Rivers and Don Helms in 1985 .Jerry and I would often go to lunch when I was in town and he liked to talk about Hank and their road trips. After a little while I realized I had found two very good and honest friends. Hard to find in Nashville. I later met Hillous Butrum and Bob McNett who were equally honest and friendly. These four men were Hank Williams DRIFTING COWBOY BAND. Hank had many band members over the years, but Jerry, Don, Hillous and Bob were with him from 1949 untill Hanks untimey death in early 1953. This was the time period that Hank and the COWBOYS are most remembered for. After Hank died, the band worked with various artists and dis-banded.
In 1977, the BAND re-formed and continued their style of music- the same music that they created for Hank. They soon found out that they were still in demand. I was very lucky to get the entire band to help me with this album.I feel that this album belongs as much to them as it does to me. As I mentioned the music for this album was created by the same band that created the very much loved music of Hank himself. Three of the BAND have passed and that makes this album especially special to me. I believe this was the last time the COWBOYS ever recorded together. I did however record several of my own compositions and a few of Hank's more popular songs with Jerry Rivers and Don Helms. Jerry and I were Planning my next sessions when he suddenly passed away.
I hope to use these recordings in my next two CDs in honor of Jerry and the Cowboys . I dedicate this album (Have you ever.....) to all of the DRIFTING COWBOYS. May God Bless.
