The ADVENTURES IN JAZZ ORCHESTRA is composed of New York City theater and recording musicians, alumni of many of the big name jazz bands including Woody Herman, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Johnny Richards, and Jerry Mulligan. Great soloists on the Cd include Ed Xiques (alto sax), Scott Whitfield (trombone), Greg Gisbert (trumpet), and Barry Blumenthal (piano).
Ted Blumenthal is a former lead trombonist with the orchestras of Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey, Buddy Morrow, Woody Herman, and others. After his stint on the road with bands, Ted moved to New York City where he played numerous Broadway musicals, backed singers like Peggy Lee, Mel Torme, Vic Damone, Tone Bennett, and Billy Eckstein, and subbed in the Merv Griffen TV show orchestra.

Fourteen spectacular charts, wonderfully performed by a sixteen-member ensemble
author: Jack BowersThe aptly named Adventures in Jazz Orchestra celebrates Christmas with fourteen spectacular charts by leader/trombonist Ted Blumenthal, handsomely recorded by Tom Jung, and wonderfully performed by a sixteen-member ensemble that has caught the holiday spirit and simply won't let go. Blumenthal's arrangements are wonderful, the orchestra world-class, the music as festive and alluring as music can be.We've applauded a number of excellent seasonal big-band albums in recent years, but none that warrants a more unreserved ovation than this.
The arrangements, the soloists.are original and creative. Wonderful stuff.
author: Jiggs WhighamTed Blumenthal has given us a wonderful Christmas present! It seems as though the gifts we most cherish are the ones that come from the heart, This one does. The reason for this is that Ted has taken well worn melodies and given them new life. The arrangements, the soloists...are original and creative. Wonderful stuff!
