notes

Blues Outlet's new "I Feel So Good" CD is NOT the same ol' blues record. Not by a long shot. It's one of those magic silver discs that just grows from strength to strength; The musical highpoints are many and varied.

Three cuts were recorded live at the historic Sun Studio in Memphis --the legendary birthplace of rock 'n' roll. You can just hear the Mississippi mud and the Memphis mojo easing out of the speakers and into your earholes.

And-- there are no fewer than three W.C.Handy Award winners and nominees featured: DUKE ROBILLARD, PAUL GEREMIA and JAMES MONTGOMERY. Plus...the guitarist's guitarist Bob "Snakeshaker" Angell. (Picture Hubert Sumlin's left hand and Roy Buchanan's right hand strokin' a garish pawnshop guitar and a battered ol' Fender amp. And loud as the hammers of hell! Swe-e-e-e-t!!)

As one Brit. blues pundit put it: "Cor,this is what (Peter Green's )Fleetwood Mac could've been!"

Boston blues sing-sa-tion Kelly Knapp hollers out the title song and several other fantastic selections. She's an American treasure. One in a million. Like Emmylou Harris? Then you'll LOVE Kelly Knapp! There's no better singer on the planet.

Add Stevie Ray Vaughan's old drummer (and the percussive force behind Otis Rush and Big Walter) Jack Moore, blues bassist extraordinaire Chicago Vinnie Earnshaw and the living legend Harmonica Robert on the Louisiana licking stick ..and... ladies 'n' gents...you've got sumthin' go-o-o-d!!!!!

Don't miss this one; It's a keeper!!

The deepest penetration of any Bluesman on the scene today, Snakeshaker can grind out the feelin' and slide up your leg... he can sing you, he can bite you or just slither the silky blues around you. This album is the best in my collection. Angell has put to softest and the grittiest blues people together to make one of the finest blues CDs in the stores today.

  • An excellent release from a true Blues Artist whose time has come.

The Snakeshaker has a lineup on this release worthy of his talents. This CD will appeal to Blues music purists and can be wholeheartedly embraced by scholars. These songs transcend all notions of cultural boundaries and trump the societal constrictions, which divide classes and races. An excellent release from a true Blues Artist whose time has come.

Can blue men sing the whites? You betcha! Real pungent Chi-Town sound, & I was impressed by guest vocalist Kelly Knapp's stylings.. A keeper..

  • The blackest white man in town ...and the baddest! Excellent!
