notes

The Blue James Band is an eclectic mix of skilled musicians who came together in sunny Southern California in 2005. Mixing funk, folk, reggae, and rock backgrounds, the band quickly clicked and hasn’t stopped jamming since.

Tour, tour, tour is this band’s motto. Led by singer-songwriter Clifton Williams, the Blue James Band played up and down the West coast in 2006, entertaining old fans and creating new ones. Their catchy, sophisticated songs and energetic live performances caught on like wildfire. With packed crowds, singin’, smilin’, and dancin’, this is NOT the band to be missed.

Critics have described the Blue James Band as a musical joyride; a band that is best experienced live. As the West Coast Independent noted, “This band has serious groove and is tight every step of the way.” Indeed, their fans include both discriminating listeners who appreciate outstanding musicianship and concert goers seeking a fun night of free-spirited jams. Blue James Band songs structures are unique and often complex. They combine melody-driven songs with loads of lyrical style. The music is sweet, at other times intense, but it always reels you in.

The band’s first album, that’s that, was met with rave reviews. As Phillip Buchan writes in Splendid Magazine, “that's that may be one of the best-played albums we've reviewed this month.” Excited by the album’s success, the guys are currently working on a new album, due out later this year.

In 2007, the band looks forward to expanding its territory and spreading the infectious Blue James Band sound to new faces and places.

This band is fronted by Cliff Williams, and not a guy named James. But that’s not really an issue here, because this is some pretty cool stuff. Floating back and forth between jam bandy reggae/pop and bluesy rock, Blue James features the catchy songs and smooth rock voice of Williams, all the while accompanied by some really great musicianship. The best comparison I can offer is a cross between Paul Simon and Sting, and the best tracks are “Remember Me” and “Going Home.”
