Some UK press for "Observations"

DJ MAGAZINE 5/5 'SUREPLAYER' SLOT RnB section:

"This is an absolutely blinding EP worth discovering! The guys deserve top marks on the vibes, vocals and production and mixology departments. The top side's mixes include the delicately soulfully sung mellow jazz-funk original, and the disco guitared, atmospheric stringed jazz-funking glorious 8 minute-plus Cienna remix'. Discover the delicious, atmospheric hiphop tinged slo-mo leftfield soulsters 'I dont need you' and 'Keep a secret'. 'another great soulful vocal from the excellent Rachel Modest' International DJ Magazine

Description:

Once in a while, a voice comes along to knock you sideways. That voice belongs to Rachel Modest. Finishing some of her work here "with child", her lyrical observations have a timeless, deep rooted spirituality sadly lacking in most contemporary "soul influenced" music. Her tone, melody and rich vocal harmonies contrive some of the most beautiful and truly soulful utterances you may be privileged to hear all year.

"Observations" is the debut release from West Yorkshire's rising stars "The Bluefoot Project" Straight to the point and distinctly urban, the band who are reputedly named after Leeds City Centre's "ladies of the night " prove their song writing superiority over the rest of the pack. The band kick out a cool live soul with deep grooves over lush sample based technologies. Seasoned through appearances in club venues and festivals in the UK and Eire (already including Glastonbury 2000, 2002, 2003) BFP produce clever, but airy song structures with enough space to let Rachel's nebulous vocal experience shine through.

The Bluefoot Project release their output on Chocolate Fireguard, a cutting edge independent label set up by Pat Fulgoni, singer with the band Kava Kava. They recently followed up "Observations" with the critically acclaimed CD album "Brave" (also available here on Chocolate Fireguard) More Bluefoot Project material is available on the Chocolate Fireguard "Taster Sounds From The Funky Underground" compilation series (also available here) and the new compilation "Interesting Flavours" which features the band alongside tracks from artists including Bentley Rhythm Ace, Freddy Fresh, Jason Sparks and features a new remix of Bluefoot Project material by the Awayteam!

For vinyl junkies there's limited edition samplers of both "Brave" and "Observations" available.

While the band work on their second full length album, Rachel has been notching up sessions for the likes of Jason Sparks. Kava Kava, LA Cedille and for labels such as Robsoul (France) First In Flight (US) and Emotif (UK)

The transition of songs, from melodic vocals to the drum and bass beats, are quite gripping. MA followers will enjoy. Even APHRODITE listeners will dig. I've caught a keeper. Your turn to make a cast.

voice! check out the streaming now! the band have come a long way since "all will be well" on taster vol 1, still one of my fave tracks but so good to hear more and some wik-wicky wikid remixes to boot. if you say you like soul, ignore the bland, get a grip and check out this bluefoot project and label.

Heavy beats, heart felt lyrics and soulful harmonies kicks off The Bluefoots Project's album 'Observations' to a great start. The album gets more and more musically intense and this album really shows the world what The Bluefoot Project are capable of: creating a fantastic album with versatility and alot of soul.

  • Stunning voice, deep soulful grooves, what more do you want?

Stunning voice, deep soulful grooves, what more do you want? No doubt this singer is gonna be around for a long, long time and it sounds like she has already been in the odd Gospel choir judging by the spacious harmonies. "Observations" lifts the band into outa space, remixed deep house style on the Cienna version and "Experiment" is simply out of this world with the vocal sounding like its spinning round Saturn and a drum'n'bass groove so large it could be from a Macca D's on Jupiter! But my favourite has to be the gorgeous and acoustic "Keep A Secret" which I think must give us all a clue to the blues in these special soulful utterances.
