Rewind to the days when songwriting was the measure of a band. Well, The Bleedin Bleedins are ready to be measured. With their new album, there are nine reasons why you should agree. The band has a distinct handle on style, with the perfect match of today and an effortless union with those things in the past that made you listen an album again and again. Harmony, melody, driving rhythms, and hook-laden gems strut all over their energetic and infectious full-length disc.
A product of Dublin and Boston, the band is a unique synergy of personalities and skills representing both Atlantic coasts. Dublin-born guitar player and songwriter Barry Kelly moved to the States in 2000, became fast friends with singer Michael Coen, and when playing in another band met multi-instrumentalist/producer David Franz. The three found common ground underlying very different musical upbringings. They spent the latter half of 2004 in their studio honing in on a new sound that has evolved into the ideas you’ll hear today on their album and in their brilliant live show.
The band writes and records the songs in a highly collaborative process... trading instruments often to try out new ideas. You may even witness a wrestling match over the bass guitar in certain cases! In their music, you can hear references to some current indulgences like The Killers, The Strokes, and Franz Ferdinand. Yet, you won’t have to strain too much to hear influences such as The Who, early U2, and 90’s Manchester. With all this however, the Bleedin Bleedins have a distinctive style of their own where the song is king... with soaring melodies and poignant lyrical stories that provide commentary on growing up and living for now. The band plays in Ireland, the U.K., and the U.S., and in previous incarnations have played with bands including The Strokes and The Frames.

pretty good CD
author: brent robinsI think this CD has 4 great songs. There are some very nice melodies. In my view an awesome CD has to have at least 6-7 great songs, but it is definitely solid.
Good time: common but well executed rock
author: Evan ShelhamerI really enjoyed listening to the CD. It isn't very out there, experimental, or entirely unique but that isn't the point. It was fun rock to listen to and I love some of the keyboard parts and bass. Nice and energetic.
