This new CD is a reflection of California life from my point of view. I have been blessed with a good sampling of California’s many different environments. To me an artists’ community looks like Venice in the 60’s. I discovered my first audience in San Francisco and have lived in San Diego and Santa Cruz but mostly L.A. is my hometown. I started in Manhattan Beach, Redondo, Santa Monica then Culver City, home of MGM Studios. This CD reflects on all of these places as I ask myself some very important life-questions.
As with my previous CDs, this has a common theme or statement as an entire work. The item I bring home is the importance of living in the moment. Maybe, you could say it’s my version of Be Here Now and that would be a nice compliment but this is music so there’s some fun to be had on top of it all.
The producer of Look In The Heart is Robert Battaglia. Don’t let the fact that he has several Grammy’s influence you. He is the real deal producer because he has a musical vision and he’s a good musician. Robert can play pedal steele as well as acoustic and electric guitar and bass…Mr. Battaglia also has perspective. He can work your vocals into a thing of beauty because he has good hearing.
Sometimes, we would reach an impass and we would take a ‘time-out’ and, after a good break, all was well with the world again. And so we worked. We worked a lot and it wasn’t always easy. We would still be working right now but we decided to go ahead and finish the project. It went almost a year past schedule but, really, its right on time.
Just remember, everyday is a gift.

LOOK IN THE HEART is a must for native Los Angeles music fans, and anyone else who can remember what it’s like to say: I Love L.A. for the first time -- and still truly mean it! This great new album features tight arrangements and the smooth and cool trademark sounds of B. Lawrence Keys -- from an amalgam of rock, jazz, blues, folk, pop, easy-listening and world music influences. This exceptionally unique sound quality is tastefully combined with Keys’ touching harmonies and optimistic lyrical sensibility – sometimes reminiscent of Jackson Browne and Todd Rundgren, with a splash of Steely Dan and Leon Russell thrown in for good measure. I’ve also recently come to the conclusion that this is not only one of the finest albums I’ve heard all year, but one of my favorite CDs of all time! Many of the songs on LOOK IN THE HEART will strike a harmonious chord with fans of Los Angeles – especially CALIFORNIA and ANGEL CITY. And one of my favorite selections is a particularly beautiful and bittersweet song about remembering the love and loyalty of an angel in the City of Angels (from Sunset to Cahuenga and The Angels Flight) which is simply titled ANGEL. B. Lawrence Keys is a very popular live performer on the West Coast (from Seattle to San Diego), so this new, critically acclaimed CD is quickly gaining popularity citizens of the Left Coast, and anyone who likes California Dreamin’ in general -- and romanticizing about Los Angeles in particular. I love L.A. and thank B. Lawrence Keys for his latest ode to the City of Angels, and his greatest musical accomplishment to date, LOOK IN THE HEART.
