notes
Black Tie Jazz is a young group of musicians based in Buffalo, NY. They formed in 2001 with Jeff Tanski, Paul Roth, Chris Kepner, Charlie Bennett, and Michelangelo Carubba as the original members. Playing mostly jazz standards at first, Black Tie Jazz's debut recording, "West We Forget," is made up of original tracks. J.D. Peterson took Carubba's place in December 2002, and Jon Latona took Bennett's place in May 2003. The group currently performs from mid-May until the end of August, and for three short weeks across December and January, due to the collegiate school year. (All members attend college in different areas of the country.)

Wow
author: Alex MenendezI am still trying to fathom the idea that these guys are all under 18. I would have never known. These guys are definitely professionals. The groove on the end of Sarah on the Spot is so tight with the bass, piano, and drums. The bassist and drummer certainly have a great musical relationship. All in all, this CD is awesome, and I love the suprise vocal from everyone's favorite Howard Stern whack pack member. Amazing job guys!
One of those few CDs that you can listen to from start to finish...
author: Steve Manning (The Indie Revue)Forget the claim that Black Tie Jazz is great "for their age." Black Tie Jazz is JUST GREAT. "West We Forget" is a solid debut album from a group that destined to take a spot in the jazz world and continue to treat our ears for years to come. I can honestly say that I have never heard a better group of musicians that are all so young (they're all 18 and under.) Sure, there are quite a few child prodigies out there, but to find a group of SIX young men with this kind of talent is almost unheard of. What you will hear on "West We Forget" is a lot of collective playing, especially on "Sarah on the Spot." If for no other reason, buy this album to hear the last three and a half minutes of that track. At the risk of being wordy, I close by saying that "West We Forget" is a must-have. Black Tie Jazz will turn heads with this fantastic debut album.
