BRASS KNUCKLE SURFER was formed in the fall of 2003. The 3 piece, all instrumental unit, consists of bass, drums, and guitars, with occasional guest musicians. The group is made up of members from several Atlanta bands including The Black Kites, ex-Hiatus, Soft Collision, Foundry, The Brew, and Novocaine. The music is best described as all instrumental ambient space rock, drawing influences from bands sounding like early Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Jane's Addiction, Brian Eno, Roni Size, STS9, Jimi Hendrix, and several other psychedelic acts. What makes the music so unique is the freedom that the players have onstage, moving through different songs based on spontaneous cues from each instrument. This music is not intended for those interested in hearing a 3 minute pop song with hooks. BKS is more of a thinking man's band, demanding attention to detail throughout the musical journey presented to the listener.
