notes

Ah, the Bitch Boys. If you've heard them before, you're nodding your head knowingly. If this is your first exposure, you'll understand what I mean after you've listened. Surf music is a sound, a style, a beat, an energy. It's a music that conveys the motion of the curl without the need for words. You need not live in Balboa to get it. Proof of that lies in this disc. The Bitch Boys are from Slovenia, quite a distance from the California coast. They write and play surf instrumentals with humor and style. They understand the power of the rhythm and attraction of the reverb.

After several releases packed with commanding original music, the Bitch Boys have gone into the vaults to pay homage to the roots of surf. While some of the songs are surf classics, and others obscuros, this is not a collection of covers by any means. Each is completely reinvented in the Bitch Boys style. These tracks display the magic of the Bitch Boys. Each song recalls the golden era of surf instrumentals, but its sound is immediate and current.

With an attractively sparkling sound and energy, the Bitch Boys are about to take over your CD player. Soon, you will be heard to quietly say "ah, the Bitch Boys."

First of all I sure do agree with the notes of Phil Dirt. Once you've heard the Bitch Boys (I already own two CD's of this fantastic Slovenian surf band)you're always looking for more. This is gonna be my third cd and really do hope this extremely talented surf band will bring out more cd's soon! I think the members of this supergroup must have grown up in Ljubljana-on-Sea or, more likely, Koper-on-Sea. I just remembered the final thought of the Bitch Boys lead guitarist Robi Biloderic in the interview on their website: REVERB IN MY HANDS BUT ECHOES IN MY HEART. So, this CD is not only recommeded but a MUST for everyone with echoes in her or his (surf) heart too!

  • Really really good tunes from a stellar band

I put the CD on at high volume at the local skate park and had lots of people ask me what was playing. Covers the range from "dreamy" to "hard charging". It is all good. Essential.
