Terrance L. (Xavier) Burton, who is also artistically known by Xavier Burton or just (X) is a visual lyricist, and recording artist who was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of eight years old. X is no stranger to the Hip-Hop circuit. He founded A Crew called Bum-Rush Productions using his murdered father's insurance money at the age of fifteen.

Burton’s versatile art form has spread a unique sound and style from Los Angeles to Harlem. He has resided in Portland Oregon since 1998. Do not let X fool you with his modesty, he is also a profound writer with several published poetry books, featured recordings, videos, film credits and international and national art designs under his belt. Some of his credits include; The Re-birth of X CD 2008, The Backlash Mix Tape 2008, The Chemistry Mix Tape 2008, Puppet Master Video 2008, The Gifted Video 2008, ‘Salvation Struggles’ Poetry Book 2007, featured film role in Turn off Channel Zero with Professor Griff of Public Enemy and more.

Burton designed the book cover of What Else Did You Think I’d Say (2007) and I Woke Up and Put My Crown On: The Project of 76 voices (2005). Both books, authored by Rochell D “Ro Deezy” Hart-Burton are available internationally from Publish America, (Baltimore, MD). His poem the Last of a Dying Breed appears in Portland Community College’s Pointed Circle 2007.

X received the Famous Poets Award twice from the Poetry Society in 2005 and 2007. X is not only an entertainer but also an educator who has taught a Poetry and Hip-Hop Curriculum throughout the Portland School District and co-led a Black Feminism lecture at Portland State University.

Burton has been awarded the Shakespeare Trophy of Excellence twice from the Poetry Society of America for his poems Innocents and Innocent Thoughts 2007/2006. X’s song The Callin was remixed by the World Famous DJ O G One and featured on ‘The Say it Loud Mixtape with Kanye West.

Burton’s poem, A Seed appears in ‘Illuminations’ 2006 with other writers such as South Africa, global leader Desmond Tutu and Afghanistan, political and women’s rights activist Fatima Gailani. X was featured on Silas Clark’s (War BeBe) Tears of Ink CD, and in Clark’s videos New Jerusalem, Mista No Body, Listen Up and Assembly Required in 2006. Burton’s painting Prayer by Color was featured internationally on ‘X magazine issue 7’ 2004 based in London, England which has featured artists as Maya Angelou, Sonya Sanchez and Nikki Giovanni.

In 2004, Great Poems of the Western World awarded Burton for his poem Innocent Thought. Burton’s paintings and visual art has been showcased at Boarder’s Bookstore, Reflections Bookstore, NW Portland Boutiques and many other places. X opened up for B.B. Jay in 2003. In 2001 X was one of four members of Portland’s first all Black National Poetry Slam Team which traveled to Seattle, WA for the 12th Annual competition which originated in Chicago, IL.

Burton lyricism has also been featured on two Bruthaz Grimm’s CD’s, Letter to the Bruthaz in 1999 and He’s Coming in 1998. By far Birthright X is a force to be recognized. X opened a show for Spice 1 in 1996 in Vancouver, WA building his NW association amongst many of the North West’s hottest artists. Burton’s unique voice narrated a short film by Happy Trails Animation called Wild Fire in 1994 BirthRight X will never be a stranger to the Hip-Hop Community.
