notes
Based out of Charlotte, NC, Bam-Jazz is one of the top bands in the area playing a unique mix of Traditional and Modern Jazz, Blues and New Orleans/Gulf Coast music.
The band is lead by trumpeter/vocalist Bill Averbach who is well known for his music work in Texas where he lived for some time. He has performed throughout N. America and Europe and his compositions are play over the air waves around the world.
With New Orleans veterans, guitarist Adam Sztyber and drummer Ocie Davis the band plays the real NOLA street sound. Filling out the rhythm section with Adam and Ocie is John Shaughnessy on bass. You can hear James Crawford's Iko Iko, Cab Callowy's Minnie the Moocher, and Averbach's Cajun Pop hit Let's Take it Nice and Slow, as well as the Texas shuffle Flounder Blues.
For the more contemporary sound Bill uses Chis Garges on Drums and Troy Conn on guitar, both native North Carolinians. And filling in the bottom with New Yorker George Hoar on bass. This configuration handles their reggae version of Summertime and Bill's original Una Bonita with precision and creativity, and the duo of Do You Know What it Means? show their versatility when it comes to playing the more traditional music.
All in all the music from this group on musicians is full of creative energy and soul with new ideas abounding.
