notes
Drawing on the influences of such artists as Brian Wilson, Jason Falkner, the Beach Boys, and Jellyfish, the members of Big Kid believe there's nothing more exciting or infectious than a great tap-your-steering wheel, sing-along melody.
Started in San Diego, California in the fall of 2002, Big Kid grew out of a number of songwriting sessions between guitarist Damian Hagger and drummer Steve Clark (who, coincidentally, attended the Berklee College of Music at the same time in the mid-90's, but didn't know each other).
As their songs began to take shape and grow, the idea of starting a full-fledged band came into focus.
Adding Steve's brother, Doug, on bass and working with Los Angeles based vocalist Ken Stacey, the band took to the studio in April 2003 to record their debut CD.
While in pre-production for the CD, the band approached David Bash, promoter and manager of the highly successful, annual International Pop Overthrow with a few of their early demos.
Excited by the music, David invited Big Kid to perform at the 2003 IPO showcase in Los Angeles, as well as invited them to be included on the 2003 International Pop Overthrow compilation CD (released on the Not Lame Recording label).
During this period, Steve, Doug and Damian, also began talking with singer/guitarist Craig Henry, a friend and former musical cohort from Los Angeles, about joining Big Kid.
A talented singer and actor, Craig brought a sense of excitement and energy to Big Kid's live performances.
"You Must Be Kidding" has received numerous accolades since its release.
One of the songs, "Pop Song", was a top ten finalist in the 2003 USA National Songwriting Competition.
In addition, three of the songs ("Feather", "Pop Song" & "The Girl is Alright") were included on the DVD of the hit MTV show "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County".
Big Kid is working on a new CD and plays occasional gigs in Los Angeles.

Bought a new computer and When I Met the Girl was in the sample playlist, couldn't wait to hear the rest of the Big Kid CD. If you like Fountains of Wayne, Ben Folds or ever heard of Swag, go here. I now own both Big Kid collections. I guess you could say "I'm a BIG KID (fan) NOW!"
i heard one of their songs on laguna beach and i fell in love with it.
So much good stuff on here
author: KimWhen I read the band bio, noting all the different artists Big Kid counts as influences, I couldn't quite imagine how it would all come together. But I can pick out and appreciate the different influences on many songs. There's really not a bad track on the whole album, but I especially like tracks 1-5 and 9-10. Keep us updated as to L.A. venues for chances to experience Big Kid live!

A Large Slice Of Power Pop Bliss
author: Rick PalI've found this CD to be an irresistable blend of just great pop rock music. The melodies stick in your head, the choruses soar, and lyrics have an endearingly upbeat quality to them. Best songs for me include "Feather" and "Change Your Mind"; that said, there really isn't a bad track on the album. I've listened to this CD numerous times and is one the best CDs I've ever found on CD Baby. If you like power pop or just flat-out great music, you will dig this album.

Their 1st song I heard was What Kind of Name Is...and I was really drawn in by it. It's a great CD and I've never heard a sound quite like this; it's worth taking a listen to!

After i heard what kind of name is... the CD really grew on me. I kept playing it over and over until i knew it by heart. it's a really great CD
The best value on cd baby. Period.
author: Christopher GreyBig Kid's You Must Be Kidding has quickly become one of my favorite albums of the year. I hear traces of Jellyfish, Adam Daniel, and Jiffipop to be sure. The songs are filled with great hooks, soaring melodies and skin tight arrangements. Preview tracks 7 and 10 for a real treat.
- author: Tamara Turner, CD Baby
To sum it up succinctly, this is simply music that yanks a "WOW!" out of your brain and knocks your composure down the nearest staircase. Blistering with high-octane composition and 85-kabillion horsepower rhythmic drive, Big Kid hasn't forgotten the history of pop and how much you loved the 80s, how much you worship the Beatles and how hard-up you are for some feel-good music that doesn't stoop to the level of radio, cookie-cutter, mindless jingle-jangle.
Worth a Second Listen
author: Amy II hated this CD the first time I heard it. It seemed unoriginal. But the sound grows on you.
