notes

"...combines a cool blend of rock and fusion, with a smattering of country licks and jazz stylings thrown in for good measure. A great combination of feel and chops!" -Rod Morgenstein (Dixie Dregs, Jazz is Dead, Platypus)

Big Block Dodge is a groosion trio, groove meets fusion, quite the funky combination! BBD is the blend of three individual styles, gettin' down on the upstroke, taking the music to a new place with each performance like a musical highwire act! Funky bottom end courtesy of bassist Jeff Hinkle, old-school tone in a fresh young player, incredible west coast fusion percussion from San Francisco's Robin Tolleson and Asheville NC's Bill Altman on guitar, from a whisper to a scream, Bill leaves it all on the stage, every night!!

  • Gets better and better every time I listen to it,,,

Now this is what I'm talking about,,, a great mix of musical flavors and a driving groove that takes you places. Not your usual, cookie-cutter set of tunes,,,

  • I love the musicianship and song crafting of this album.

Sometimes with instrumental efforts you have what sounds like some generic background music with the soloist weedling away on top. Not this time, I enjoyed the songcraft of this album and the strong musicianship of ALL the players. Track #5 is my favorite!

  • Straight no chaser

  • this CD both entertained me and amazed me!

this CD both entertained me and amazed me. I get a very happy almost a harmonious vibe on the disc. Listening to this CD just made me feel good. I noticed a little tongue in cheek humor too. As with the CD title and the song titles (erik's johnson, tour de pance). I'm not sure when the last time was, that a CD made me move some part of my body nonstop. Heck! I'm bopping in my seat as I'm writing this review

  • Great, I loved this CD!

Big Block Dodge is nothing more than three good ol’ boys with a whole lot of jam band talent. Not unlike Project Z (Jimmy Herring’s band that is thanked in the liner notes), the jams are long and varied, and very fluid. There’s nary a vocal to be found, which is fine when you are this good on your guitar, bass and drums. Choice tracks include the slow, surrealistic “Kilimanjaro,” and the progressive “SOL.” And hey, the album cover is cool as everything, featuring a very 60’s looking girl and car. Yeah, Far out, man! -Michael Buffalo Smith .......editor, Gritz magazine, Spring issue 03'

  • Great album cover and cool music.

Great idea for album cover, cool musical groove. Looks alot like my '69 Charger SE, same color.

  • Groove + Fusion = Groosion
    author: Brooks

Manifold Destiny, by Big Block Dodge, takes the best elements from jazz fusion and the jam band scene (masterful chops, humable melodies, danceable grooves) while eschewing the the very things that often bring those genres down (overplaying & meandering arrangements). A hip blend of jazz, funk, rock and country that is appealing to musicians and nonmusicians alike. Fans of Jeff Beck, the Grateful Dead, and John Scofield need to check out Manifold Destiny, the first gem in what should be a stellar career.
