Brenda Harvey
Musician, Songwriter and Performer released her first CD, "Journey Home," featuring her Native American flute music in 2001. The music tells the story of her Journey Home to self, heritage, ancestors, tribe and Great Spirit. It is the experiences on her journey that color the tones, moods and melodies of these songs. Her pure tonal resonance is unique among native-style flute players, especially as a woman. Her prolific musical gifts have been termed "genius".

Her most recent work "CREATION, Sounding the Internal Landscapes" is a unique and powerful combination of didgeridoo, flute and other instrumentation.

Brenda grew up not knowing of her Native American heritage. In 1994 while uncovering her Nipmuc ancestry she received her first flute in the red rocks of Sedona, AZ. It was love at first sight...and sound! From her first moments with the flute something from deep within her soul sang out in remembrance. Brenda plays the Native American Flute with all the emotion of two long lost lovers finally reunited. She feels that these "lovers" were the person she had been up until that moment - a shy, quiet young woman in search of her own identity and expression; and the heritage of her Native American ancestors that she never knew. When these two aspects of her soul united it created a sound, an expression like no other!

Wanting to know the ins and outs of these hauntingly expressive instruments, Brenda began making her own flutes. She uses bamboo that is grown near her house in Connecticut. A loving husband planted the bamboo for his new bride from the Orient thirty years ago. He wanted her to feel more at home. The love that this man had for his wife can now be felt in each piece of bamboo. When the bamboo is made into a flute and played, the vibration of that immense love echoes out and fills the room.

Brenda also makes and plays her own Didgeridoos. The Didgeridoo is a unique and fascinating wind instrument that has its origins with the Aboriginal People of Northern Australia. According to Aboriginal Myth, the didgeridoo has been around since the beginning of time and it played an important part in "sounding" the world into form during the process of creation. There is no other instrument that can create such a diverse and complex range of sonic textures by a single player at one time.

The multi-track didgeridoo music completely enveloped me in the musical story. Each time I hear it my soul reaches deeper into its own creative potential.
