If Erik Satie or George Gershwin were alive & writing in today's world, the music might be something like what Bettie writes. Her music is a kind of "serious music" diving headlong into popular music, mixed with intelligence & a dash of improvisation

notes

This CD openly and joyously presents the musical expression of a very alive and musically well-trained woman living in modern times.

This is Bettie’s first recording for Alternative Classical Records. The work breathes with the life and expression of a Magical Time of Year.

Here is what Bettie had to say about her inspiration for writing this music:

“The end of fall and the beginning of winter are filled with beautiful landscapes of the changing weather: the leafless trees, rain, snow, fog, mists and ice…there are family gatherings—visits with friends—reflections on life and looking ahead to the new year just starting. For me, these things create a Magical Time of Year.”

Ten of the CD's 12 tracks are piano solo. On two of the tracks, Winter Solstice and Serenade for a Beloved Being, Bettie is joined by guitarist Frank Blumer.

Sheet Music available this coming week:
At www.bettieross.com there will be sheet music available for December, Merrymaking, Elfin Folly, Evergreen Forest, Child's Wonder, and Joy (written for 4 hands, 2 persons, 1 piano).
Sheet music of the basic themes (not including the improvisation) of Reflection, Winter Solstice, Candle Dance, and Serenade for a Beloved Being will be also available at www.bettieross.com.
Northern Lights and This New Year are fully improvised, so no sheet music will be available.

  • I am seduced by your mastership as a pianist - perfectly, very convincing!
    author: Leonid Vorobyev

The music is beautiful - very human and heartfelt and vivid and... (My english don't lets me express myself completely). Even dissonant intervals in Elfin Folly sounds consonant enough. Fascinating!

  • Brava!

I like so much this Album, dolce e pieno di energia. Really elegant and 'simply complex'!

  • This album will always be a magical experience for the listener
    author: Gale Fiscus

Bravo Bettie! Your command of the keyboard is exceptional and you obviously are an accomplished composer. Every piece in the album has an original freshness. There are beautiful haunting melodies, rich harmonies and clever rhythms that thread all the compositions together in this CD. What a pleasure to know you & listen to your music.

  • Bettie Ross plays piano like a dream with her gorgeous harmonies and melodies.
    author: Sheryl Braunstein

An astounding talent as a pianist and composer, Bettie Ross takes you far away as you listen to this cd. Her pieces are haunting, moving, intelligent, playful, and nothing less than beautiful.

  • What a magical treat your CD is, just like it promises!
    author: Robin B.

I was PROFOUNDLY MOVED by your music! I started really getting into it (first go around) during Reflection, when suddenly it had the Dave Grusin sound, one of my favorite composers! Just a touch, and it was wonderful. Then came Elfin Folly and that was pure FUN, oh my! Evergreen Forest then put majesty there and sounded a big Romanesque. I could see the forest! Such different colors you elicited! Wow!! Child's Wonder transported me into dreams; Joy I simply loved; Candle Dance had the Jewish touch to it; Northern Lights (which I have seen firsthand) you captured; and New Year made me cry -- don't know why, it just did! And I was so sorry to have reached the final song on this recording. BUT, I have it to play all again and will get more out of it next time. Oh, and it was great to hear Frank play! To sum up, what a magical treat your CD is! Just like the cover promises. Just beautiful, Bettie!

  • Intelligent Beauty
    author: Stan G

The dominant characteristic in Bettie Ross's music is intelligence. She knows her craft, and she is a master in using it to create effects. Watch out for an agonizingly beautiful experience in Serenade For A Beloved Being! Very, very rich.

  • Calming and varied. Great in my artist's studio while I paint!
    author: Lynne Oakes

This is the perfect music for me and my art students to have playing while we paint. I especially like the first two numbers. There is considerable variety of style and tempos which make it interesting. And I very much like having piano music playing as it maintains a constant volume that works to enhance my life and work. Thank you Bettie! Keep 'em coming!

  • Bettie Ross is Beyond Brilliant
    author: Bobbi

It is a joy to listen to the music created by Bettie Ross. Her ability to transport the listener into another world is beyond compare. I am glad that she takes us places that we would like to be. Give yourself a treat - Give yourself A Magical Time of Year.

  • The world's best pianists...I now include Bettie as one of them.
    author: Mark G.

I got Bettie's CD today and listened to it for the first time. From the first chord on the opening composition I was hooked. All of my criteria for excellent musical renditions were met. Emotional impact, originality, and performance that is newly created in the moment. I've tuned pianos for some of the world's best pianists and I now include Bettie as one of them. Needless to say I was impressed. I don't like to compare one artist to another so I won't but instead I will say that her ability to use the 88 sounds that a piano has in it is non-pariel.
