notes

Beth Thornley is earning a reputation as a profound songwriter in the underground pop world. Recognized for inventive melodies and intelligent lyrics, her songs keep the listener intrigued from beginning to end.

Performing Songwriter wrote “Beth Thornley's self-titled debut is one of the most professional and fully realized records to cross the DIY desk in a while. Breathless, cool, sexy and just about any other superlative adjective you can imagine, this record kicks off with a sleazy, skittering groove and proceeds at breakneck pace for 10 stellar tunes.”

Compared to Sheryl Crow, Aimee Mann and Beth Orton by writers such as Bruce Brodeen of Not Lame Recordings, Beth’s sound has been called, “pop with modern rock wrapped in a package of addicting hooks….Her music is filled with a delightful and most serious commitment to making things interesting at every turn.”

Summer 2006 brings the release of Beth’s 2nd album, “My Glass Eye”. On this album you can find a range of styles

  • Very Talented! Awesome music!
    author: Justin T.

Beth is so talented, its a shame she hasn't broken out into the main stream yet. She has very conscious and thoughful lyrics accompanied by her angelic voice and awesome instumental by her and her band mates! Buy it, you won't be sorry! Check out her local shows in you live in the LA area! This CD review is now a couple of years overdue! sorry beth! :)

  • Very catchy.
    author: Rich

Trying not to bob your head to 'I Will Lie' and 'Sunshine and Celluloid' is pointless. 'How Many Days' is my favourite song on the cd, its got bits of ska, rock (kinda like No Doubt) and even some country guitar. I know it sounds like a weird combination, but it sounds awesome, especially if you're tired of all the same stuff on the radio.

  • Great voice and rockin' songs!
    author: Stephanie Patrick

I want to listen to these songs over and over again, and I can't help but sing along too. I'm completely impressed!

  • Great CD!!! awesome artist!
    author: Scott B.

This is a great CD with strong vocals and very catchy music. this is one of my favorite CD's i own. the artist has thoughtful lyrics and a voice that stays with you after the cd is over. very provoking. Definatly not "teeny pop" with mindless vocals and bubble-gum-for-the-mind music. i highly recommend it!

  • Off the Hook !
    author: Daniel

Its been a very long time since I have heard such well rounded music. You have a sound of your own and what a cool voice. Why do we have to be pounded with the same ole music when we have this out there? Good luck in your venture. Daniel

  • Beth is the best new sound in a long time!
    author: Justin T.

This CD is great! So much better then a lot of stuff that is getting air play right now. Beth has a sound all her own. She has a beautiful voice, and talanted musicians backing her up. This CD just rocks, literally! The songs never grow stale, they're all very distinct and very memorable. A definite purchase if you like good a female voalist with some spunk!

  • Solid!

  • Superb!
    author: Scott

I received this CD as a gift two weeks ago, and nothing has made it into my CD player since! I can't seem to get enough of this crisp, intelligent music, which fills my soul more each time I hear it. The chorus of "Arrogance" just keeps playing endlessly in my head. The edgier tracks like "Break u n 2" really rock, but EVERY single song on this CD is a treat. Thank you Beth!

  • Dynamic, fuzzy, witty and IT ROCKS!!
    author: Doug, a PowerPop fan....

Beth Thornley's intro CD is filled with promise. The tunes are masterful, the wit infectious and intoxicating, and her rock'n edge inspiring and head bopping. There are several styles here Beth weaves into a strong and cohesive statement. I preferred the harder rockers (punk influenced), but the softer songs are gorgeous and extremely well produced. Buy this CD, play often, and you'll be thinking "lucky you lucky you".

  • Beth Thornley is worth listening to!
    author: Christy

The songs are very well written and quite catchy- she's the best kept secret of California- I think if more people could get their hands on this CD, they'd be amazed. A+

  • Tell Your Friends...
    author: Jeremy Vegas

Great songs that you will have stuck in your head for DAYS. I honestly have not heard songs this good in a long time. You will not regret picking this cd up!

  • Beth's the Bomb!
    author: Liz T.

This is honestly the best overall CD I have picked up in ages! The songs are addicting, clever, intriguing. What a talent this woman is!! She could really go places! I don't know whether to buy everyone I know a copy of her CD or keep this awesome singer my little secret!! Beth is inspiring. Buy this CD!! Trust me!

  • Beth is brilliant!!!
    author: Ken Johnson

It is not like me to stop and write a review I guess, but- when you hear this CD you have to tell somebody. Original and hooking me big time! Get two. Great Record!!!

  • Beth Thornley is high caliber melodic rock!
    author: Laura Turner Lynch

Beth's music is power packed rock with alternative edges and hints of the blues, ballads and punk. Thornley has high voltage vocals that are clear and concise. She weaves complex webs of deep, sometimes dark descriptive lyrics. Well-crafted lyrics are the norm for this capable composer. The opening song 'I Will Lie' includes masterful lyrics, versatile vocals, varied tones, funky sounds and rock solid instrumentation. 'Break U N 2' is another forceful song with shades of punk, grinding guitars, thunderous percussion and fluid vocals. I happened to like the hard rocking tunes best but Beth's slower songs are also noteworthy and complete this well-rounded CD

  • Second That Emotion!
    author: Rich K.

I've got to agree with everyone else here...Beth's tunes rock hard! Why we can't hear more artists of her caliber on the radio is beyond me. I'm telling everyone I know about this CD.

  • Absolutely Addictive!
    author: Tracy O.

I love this CD! I should have ordered three copies... one for work, one for the car, and one for home!

  • It's brilliant
    author: Tracy V.

I really dig it. I can't get enough of "I will lie". We have been listening to Beth's cd over and over. I really really like it. It's a brilliant cd.

  • Brilliant Lyrics, Masterful Production, Tasty Music!!
    author: Michael K.

This CD is brimming with new inventive sounds and musical arrangements. Take, for example, "How Many Days", combining blues/folks/rockabilly with punk/modern rock. Brilliant. This CD points the way... this is where music is going. And you'll be half way there once you listen.
