A full length funky disk of political tirades such as Empire of the United States, rollicking, hip-slapping songs like High Sense of Adventure and Swim!, narrative twisters like General of Goddess and Breakneck, this album features Custer's latest songs and some gems from David James. The ensemble is a veritable crème de la crème of Bay Area musicians including long time collaborator Jan Jackson on drums, Sila, Coup and Spearhead guitarist David James, iconic pianist Graham Connah, three bassists Tennessee transplant Scott Alexander, the highly sought after Devin Hoff, and whiz kid Andrew Higgins; Charming Hostess Marika Hughes on hot 'cello licks, and a horn section to die for in Ralph Carney, Ben Goldberg and Marty Wehner. The incredibly talented trombonist for Santana and long time Custer collaborator Jeff Cressman recorded, mixed, and mastered the disk.

a well crafted, improvised. experimental, fusion of genres
author: scott"Empire of America" is worth 75% of the cost of the cd. One of the most interesting songs I've heard in a long while -- a well crafted fusion of 50's jazz, funk, be-bop. The rest of the album is what I would call "experimental", which means it isn't part of any particular genre or theme. Some of it works for me, some doesn't. See also the album "Dona Luz".
