BETH CUSTER is a composer, performer, recording artist and the proprietor of BC Records. She is a founding member of numerous ensembles including the notorious silent film soundtrack makers the Club Foot Orchestra, 4th world ambient group Trance Mission, the trip-hop duo Eighty Mile Beach, the Latin-jazz-rock influenced Doña Luz 30 Besos, and most recently, The Beth Custer Ensemble.

Commissions include works for the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, Kronos Quartet, Zeitgeist, Overtone Industries, Earplay, and Alternate Currents. Custer has been composer in residence for over 10 years with the Joe Goode Performance Group, a Bay Area cutting edge dance troupe.

She has also composed for countless theater productions including most notably California Shakespeare, Campo Santos, and San Diego Repertory Theater. Soundtrack work includes a season of The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat cartoon for CBS, the Independent View theme for KQED TV, as well as music for many independent films.

Custer has received many awards including two residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts, a Wattis Residency at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, an Isadora Duncan Award, a Bay Guardian GOLDIE Award, two WAMMIE Music Awards, and many grants including an NEA grants and Meet The Composer commissioning grants and most recently the prestigious, three year, Meet The Composer Residency grant.
