notes
"Berkeley sings in a lustrous melancholy voice...as his melodies ascend to become benedictions and consolations, the music shimmers and peals." --The New York Times
"Often compared to Nick Drake, Tim Buckley and Donovan due to his emotive, airy vocals and generally pensive qualities, Berkeley crafts his songs like watercolor paintings. Intimate and introspective, his gentle yet colorful melodies are graceful and resonate long after the last note fades." --Creative Loafing, Atlanta, GA
"Berkeley's songs hit the ear like poetry, complete with irregular rhyme schemes and turns of phrase that don't always flow logically but somehow still work. Berkeley's voice ranged from airy to husky, sometimes in the span of one emotional word, and he complemented his own vocals with solid guitar work." --Birmingham News
This is David Berkeley's third release, following 2004's After the Wrecking Ships and 2002's The Confluence. For the many who haven't seen David Berkeley with his NY band, this is your chance: his first live release. It's a single show, performed on Feb 22nd, 2005 at the legendary Fez in New York City (which closed in March). And the package includes a DVD with video of David playing a solo version of Fire Sign and the full band playing Little Fists, Times Square and his new song Hurricane.
David's band features Tyler Gibbons on bass and vocals, Alex Weinstein on electric guitar and vocals, Adam "Buck" Buchwald on mandolin and Dan Vonnegut on drums.
This recording, which includes some unreleased material and songs from both of David's albums captures a moment in the career of this rising songwriter and commemorates the history of Fez.

Solid live cuts of music that will make you think.
author: RyanThis is a great prelude to DB's upcoming third studio release. My only hesitation is that the live version of the new songs, which sound very light and acoustic on this album, might sound overly heavy on the studio release. For me, it's easier to make the (more common) adjustment from heavy to light, rather than the reverse. Also, David could probably benefit from some coaching regarding his on-stage chatter! This is truly a man who best communicates through music, and perhaps music alone.
great performances, terrifc live as recorded! his songs make me sing!
author: jfdWhy is this guy not bigger? Read about him in the NYT a while back and found all his cool stuff on CDBABY! and found CD BABY as well. GET IT ( also there is a good live things on E Music but this is better recorded.

author: Robert SchefflerAs you listen to this cd, you may find yourself forgetting that it is a live recording session. David's vocals are just as crisp and resounding as those found on his two studio albums. In fact, without the applause and stage banter, it would be nearly impossible to discern any semblance of live recordings. If you have heard any of David's songs, then this cd will not disappoint you. If you have never heard any of David's songs, then this cd will probably leave you wanting more. Not suprisingly, there are several new tracks on here which are not available elsewhere. Most notably, Glory, Hurricane, and Racing Stripe Winter round out a refreshing lineup of new songs that take nothing away from David's credibility as an immensly talented songwriter. Hurricane is arguably the strongest track on the cd, with heartfelt lyrics and resonating chord sequences fleshing out the powerful piece. This track and each successive one appropriately introduce David to those who may never have heard him before, and remind his fans why they bought this incredible cd.
Worth it
author: Je77This live CD features a few new tunes, a few from "The Confluence," and many from "After the Wrecking Ships." Most songs are played with faithfulness to the album versions. I frankly would have liked to have seen more experimentation, like Counting Crows's "Across a Wire." You do get a cool guitar-solo section in "Breeze" and the mandolin-solo section in "Times Square" is even more cool. One can squabble over the selection of songs drawn from the previous albums. In particular, where are "Moon Song" and "Drowning," two of the best songs off the debut album? But, song selection is always problematic for a live collection. The new songs are nice, but where is "Halloween Parade"? My favorites on this one are "Hurricane," "Breeze," "Times Square," and "Red." For those of you getting acquainted with DB, I recommend starting off with "After the Wrecking Ships," but this is a fine addition to tho DB collection.
His newer songs are just as excellent as the others from his past two albums
author: J. ThomasDavid Berkeley continues to produce music with amazing lyrics and melodies. His songs are both catchy and thought-provoking. He deserves to achieve fame for his work.
