While still containing the edge and attitude of his first album, "Bare Bones", Rothbard experimented with different song structure and sounds on "Attention" that resulted in a wonderful piece of work. Every song is completely different from the next, yet all containing Rothbard's unique and contagious style.     Excellent all around album. Some friends of mine saw Ben acoustic/live and couldn't stop talking about some of the songs on Attention. This album is constantly playing either at home, work, or in the car. I highly recommend this CD.

    As this album opens, an ambient stream of slight keyboard notes float in and out, eventually making room for acoustic guitar that echoes the same empty, scared feeling. The drum beat that hides in the background is further proof that this is not simply a typical blues album, but instead a wonderfully minimalistic and clean take on the genre. When "Your Selfish Ways" revs up to start the beginning of the album proper, the fear that lingers subsides and a stern calm takes its place. Relying mainly on his guitar, we are given the picture of a man who is down on his luck but not down for the count, a less-than-perfect gentlemen who has lost his way or somehow made a wrong turn. These songs are compelling for that very reason, as they brim with honesty and compassion that is essential to this brand of alternative acoustic blues. Traces of classic rock work their way into the landscape as well, and those elements work succinctly to lock in with the timbre of the vocals. If you like your blues a little mellow and a little different, this one's worth a listen.
