notes

Possibly the most eclectic Pop/Rock album ever...

OUT THROUGH THE IN CROWD wraps unforgettable pop tunes in thick organic soundscapes of vocal harmonies, multicolored guitars, cellos, flutes, percussion, and imagination - flying in the face of today's trend towards homogenous rock.

Three years in the making with legendary Cincinnati producer Brian Lovely (we learned what it feels like to be Brian Wilson, or, uh... Tom Scholz) and mastered by Grammy Award winning mastering engineer Bob Katz, this record draws together a Who's Who of Cincinnati's music scene: Roger Klug, Tracy Walker, Greg Mahan, and members of the Freekbass, the Ass Ponys, the Simpletons, Homunculus, Circus Of The Sun, not to mention Rob Fetters, Chris Arduser, and Bob Nyswonger - all members of the venerable Bears/psychodots/Raisins family tree - among the 46 musicians who contribute performances.

OUT THROUGH THE IN CROWD is packaged in a sweet deluxe six-panel gatefold Digipak with complete lyrics and gorgeous graphics !

"...a joyful voyage through the history of pop music...solid songwriting..sweet sonic diversity...a fun trip indeed." Sean Rhiney, Cincymusic.com, Feb. 15, 2002

"The Beatles connection is strong...lilting Rubber Soul pop...well-crafted touches all over the place, the album sounds great." Larry Nager, The Cincinnati Enquirer, Feb. 8, 2002

"Possibly the most eclectic Pop/Rock album ever, Benj Clarke's new effort is pure genius. Featuring more than 40 other Cincinnati-based musicians, the scheduling nightmare for recording sessions would have discouraged all but the most determined artist. But Clarke, along with co-producer Brian Lovely, managed to withstand the three years it took to assemble the players and create just the right combination for each song. Clarke pulled together his friends and colleagues to create...a "scrapbook" of their performances. There is a sense of freedom about his approach that really penetrates all the different layers of the album".

This sound brings together a joyful explosion of colorful composition from a tasty variety of artists. It's historical references and swimming influences from musical greats provide this piece with a timelessness all it's own. Its lemon sharp twist of talent from the many different artists adds a flare of creativity no one man can find on his own. Truly a gift to experience for all ages and musical tastes. Raising the bar on handmade music!

    author: Dorothy Greenberg

The first three songs immediately grab you and get into the groove. This is a pop album with a difference.Understandable lyrics with alot of musical layering. A definate return to pop music in a sophisticated way. This is not your Boy band type of pop and rock and roll."Sure as the Sun" is my favorite song at the moment. I would definately recommend this album to all true music lovers.

  • A wonderful ride from start to finish...
    author: Nancy Schwab

Out Through The In Crowd is a Magical Mystery Tour from beginning to end. Delightfully well crafted melodical tunes incorporating intelligent songwriting, well placed weirdness, and influences from nearly every genre of early rock n' roll, provide all a sweet trip down musical memory lane. Clarke has written and produced a masterpiece, letting the listener know from the first track, Never Gonna Do, that this is not going to be an ordinary two guitar, bass and drum spin. Heavily felt are waves of Beatles, Nirvana and Pink Floyd, as well as a touch of Spike Jones and Billy Joel. The well-placed contributions of several Cincinnati musical talents, add diversity and eclectisim to Clark's sagacious songwriting. This CD is a must for everyone's collection. Enjoy...

  • Loved Every Minute Of It
    author: Amy Weggeland

This cd is great - start to finish. A little attitude, a little fun, a little Beatles.
