About Bright Path Music and the Artist:

Bright Path Music is home to singer/songwriter, Steven Belaus. Steven is a native Pennsylvanian residing in the Lehigh Valley near Philadelphia. Although he has been playing guitar and singing for years, he began seriously composing songs after the national tragedies on 9/11/01 and the country's change in direction. His debut project, “Songs from The Middle Way”, released in August 2007, targets the hypocrisy of our current political and religious leadership and general attitudes of indifferent people. Steven is currently working on his second project; “Cruising the Loop”, which will be available in 2008.

About “Songs from The Middle Way”:

“Songs from The Middle Way” is a compilation of songs about deep and personal core losses; the loss of loved ones, the loss of faith in organized religion, the loss of faith in one’s country under an arrogant and divisive administration, and the loss of faith in the attitudes of so many people. These songs were written through adverse times from a position of strength in The Middle Way, a place of calm and clarity, where extremes are to be avoided.

“Songs from The Middle Way” opens with a longing for days past in SLOW DOWN, before diving into the destructive nature of religion-based politics in ALL IN THE NAME OF GOD, followed by a pledge to courage and strength in THE MIDDLE WAY, and the payback for ignorance and greed in the neoconservative ballad, FAR RIGHT. The line-up continues with OUR FATHER IS A DEMOCRAT, dedicated to my father who was everything Karl Rove and the GOP spin machine pretend to be, but truly are not; then moving to SALVATION IN ME, an epiphany that God is ever-present within us; non-discriminating; patiently waiting for contact, but not through self-absorbed ministers in their newfound political power, poisoning the well we all drink from. In essence, no political party and its self-serving supporters have the right to lay claim to the moral high ground and patriotism, claiming to be born again, while practicing hypocritical, self-indulgent and divisive ways.

The tempo of “Songs from The Middle Way” changes with a call to a more meaningful way of life in NEW AGE, followed by the lowest point in the line-up, TO JILL JUDE, dedicated to my Godchild who recently passed from this world in the prime of her life. A second wind enters with OLD DAYS, again longing for calmer waters; WINOLA, Native-American folklore about a lake and the princess (true character) for which it is named; and THE LAST FLOWER, a message to all who overlook the late bloomers. Mozart, Van Gogh, and Einstein, were gifted. Most kids labeled as gifted, under the “No Child Left Behind” Act of 2002, are not. It only promotes arrogance.

“Songs from The Middle Way” concludes with PRINCE OF PEACE, a plea to the true Jesus to return and lead us home and away from the mess created by the Bush Jr. Administration and its supporters. The bonus track, PENNSYLVANIA, completes the entire compilation on a patriotic note and pride in what was and what can still be. I love my country and refuse to be governed or blessed through fear.
