The Bee Zoo Boobalah The Bee Zoo is the band formed by Rob Kudyba and features Rob on vocals and guitar, along with bassist David Chirico and drummer Bryn Mutch who also performed on Kudyba's solo 3-song EP cassette released in 1996. Boobalah extends Kudyba's knack for tight songs while stretching out the influences in a fast-paced ride that ranges from overdriven, industrial sized power rock to shuffling rock'n'roll. Taking the vocal reins himself, Rob more than handles the versatility of the songs, from the alterno-metal "I Want You Here With Me" to the folk-rock "High Maintenance Girl" to the distorto grunge of "Lay Down." This is a powerful collection which the band fills with loads and loads of energy. Highly recommended. MEDIA: CD. PRICE: $10.00. Bee Zoo Boobalah Date received: 4/17/98 A rougher, tougher Rob Kudyba returns to the airwaves, accompanied by drummer Bryn Mutch and David Chirico on bass and now trading under the name Bee Zoo (echoing perhaps a previous Mutch outfit, Zoom -- where he was mates with a Weezer.) And you know what? I like it. Wasn't a big fan of Kudyba's eponymous 1996 cassette, but since then he's hitched his caboose to the Foo Fighters/Matthew Sweet train and the ride suits him -- although he'll doubtless catch some hell for coming aboard so far down the track. Some cutesy elements remain -- "High Maintenance Girl" is typical pub-rock fare -- but tracks like "Wish" see Kudyba rocking out and loving it. Boobalah - The Bee Zoo (DINGO RECORDS) 10 Song CD Produced by Rob Kudyba A combination of original pop and alternative with a hard edge to it, solid musicianship and exquisitely mastered. It contains tracks of radio friendly length. The band already has a distinctive and original sound. I liked it. Contact: Rob Kudyba at (860) 665-9160 Dawn Hafner, Northeast Performer Magazine 6/98

BEE ZOO: "Boobalah" - CD (DINGO RECORDS) The CD can best be described as power driven rock with an edge. The grooves are irresistible, and the melodies unmistakable. If your the kind of person who likes rock music soggy like an old bowl of Corn Flakes, and whiny like Edith Bunker, then this release clearly isn't for "Boobalah" shimmies with more passion and velocity than most of your alterna-commercial radio stations scrounge up these days. The music is straight shooting, no nonsense style of rock and roll that comes off as grandiose on the release. A rarity for most indie bands, The Bee Zoo proves that good rock and roll can still be made without all of the cranky self loathing horse feathers you hear on the radio these days.
