notes
When I first played a cut from Furious Fancies for one of our long-time fans, she listened a while and then said, "So this is like the serious part just before you get funny, right?"
"No, it's not," I replied. "This is a serious song. The whole album is serious music."
"Oh, c'mon, Uncle Cedric," she replied, "the Bedlam Bards don't know any serious songs!"
I knew right then that we had to finish this album just to prove that we are real musicians.
Take a listen to any of the samples, and I think you'll agree that it worked.
After that conversation, I went to the owner of the faire and told him that we would need one set a day outside of the pub, so that we could play music suitable for the whole family. That was the origin of our "sit-down set" (as in, "They told us we had to play on this stage, and we told them we wouldn't stand for it!")
So crack open this CD and enter a mysterious world of pirates, outlaws, ghost ships, madmen, star-crossed lovers, strong drink, and long-lost friends. You'll never be the same again.
Of course, we know you'll want the whole Bedlam Bards collection, so don't forget to check out our other albums:

Good Mix of Sad and Whimsical
author: Shawn Patrick CookeI usually look for lighthearted in my music, but this CD is an exception. It contains two of my favorite songs, "Dark Lady" and "Saint Brendan's Fair Isle," in versions I listen to again and again. That being said, I wasn't as fond of their takes on "Johnny Jump Up" or "Whiskey in the Jar," but that's just a matter of taste. Two songs were completely new to me--"Amarillis' Secret" and "Kilkelly," and they had me close to tears the first time I heard them. All in all, a great CD, and one that constantly pops up on my iPod just when I least expect it.
sigh
author: syndonyNot just serious but tear-jerking. One or two songs on here make me cry so much that I have to skip over them when I'm with others like my husband who thinks it's silly that I cry over things like that. They're good for those cry in your tankard days. But other tunes on here make me want to get up and move. This cd evokes a wide range of emotions and I cannot wait to get my replacement copy.
