notes
"One of the best things to have happened to contemporary music in Nigeria... a rare creator of rich sounds and a gifted performer."
(Steve Ayorinde, The Punch, January 21, 2005)
"Nigeria's King of Melody!"
(Chux Ohai, National Mirror, September 1, 2006)
Beautiful Nubia and the Roots Renaissance Band follow up their highly successful 'Awilele' album with this collection of fun-filled, reflective and educative 16 tracks of pulsating neo-traditional music. Fèrè once again showcases BN’s unique modern African music with meaning.
Blending rhythms and melodies from the folk traditions of his Yoruba culture with personal influences, singer/songwriter and bandleader, Segun Akinlolu/Beautiful Nubia has created an original form of music that defies classification. Performed in both English and Yoruba, his songs are loaded with universal social and political messages, complemented by soulful vocals and dexterous performances by his fourteen-member band.
'Jangbalajugbu', his biggest-selling effort to date has sold in excess of a million copies in his native Nigeria and beyond. The follow up, 'Awilele' continues to open new vistas and 'Fèrè' has come to complete a must-have trilogy for anyone interested in new African music. The "new" part is not entirely true though. Beautiful Nubia's music is both new and old - ancient in its melodies and rhythms but forward-looking in philosophy. And YOU should be listening!

Insight
author: Segun AdesanmiIt is not easy for a man to discover himself in the context of the essence of nature from the pinhole of his enviroment. It is not any easier to express oneself in this discovery and still communicate it without it loosing steam. This is my summation of this new creative masterpiece from Beautiful Nubia.

music that moves your body and gives food for thought
author: Dirk BinsauLike it’s predecessors, Fèrè offers a balanced mixture of political and personal songs...And again (Beautiful Nubia) proves that he’s a guarantor for music that moves your body with infectious afro beats and brings you food for thought...Beautiful Nubia’s voice needs to be heard not only in his native continent Africa but all over the world.
Odes that beam with hope and positivity
author: Jacob Richardson(Beautiful) Nubia has composed a very strong album with layers of emotion billowing from each verse...From gangan to congas to a brass section and shekere, they all strike together to make a CD as powerful as it needs to be...Robust basslines anchor the songs in a swaying groove that the entire band rides idly while Nubia delivers his sermons. And it’s quite a compilation of lectures. Although most of the songs tend to draw awareness to the serious degradation brought about by civil war, ineffectual governments, violence amongst neighbors, public health concerns, and widespread apathy, you can almost see the smile on his face as he and his band play odes that beam with hope and positivity.
