Formerly Allan Gittler, father of avant garde jazz guitar, uses classical tecnique with a futuristic approach on electric guitars that he built - the most famous being the "Gittler Guitar"

notes

Magic and surprise enchant in each of these special works. Using classical technique with a futuristic approach, Bar Rashi displays nuance and dynamics unheard of on electric guitar. With supreme groove and time-bending ease he captures the astute jazz ear. The orchestral sound and emotive sweep equally impress the classicist. His funk, rock and blues excite fans of these genres and more, while retaining his unique style.

Finding improvisation the forte of modern music, Bar Rashi pioneers his ensembles through it in total, with no preconceived format.

Avraham Bar Rashi - Bar Rashi Guitar - Formerly known as Allan Gittler, his minimalist "Gittler Electric Guitar" remains the only musical instrument in the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art.

Master musician, composer, inventor, poet, photographer and moviemaker, Bar Rashi has long been regarded as a major innovator on New York's underground jazz/art scene. He has recorded with drummer Elvin Jones, arranger Gil Evans, flutist Lloyd McNeill, percussionist Genji Ito and many others. In Israel he has performed with Mickey Shaviv, Avner Strauss and more.

Yonatan Bar Rashi - percussion - A musical upcoming in New York City bands led to an album and tour with members of "The Tokens", who performed "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Yonatan later lived several years in the Caribbean, where he worked with a wide range of groups and genres. He has performed on percussion in three recent Saint Lucia Jazz Festivals and in New York, with the Caribbean's great saxophonist and composer, Luther Francois. In Israel he has performed with Yair Dallal, Avishai Cohen, Eyal Sela, Baladi and many others. He leads his own percussion ensemble - "Yadayim" ("Hands").

This is some of the most amazing music I've ever heard. The guitar playing is totally unique - Bar Rashi's sound, composition, use of space and spontaneity are just wild. He's got to be one of the very greatest guitarists in history and I am thankful he left us this sample of his incredible music. It is sure to be a major collectors' item, for his music is at least as unique as the instruments he created. I love the title track and track #3, "Dynamite" - this is a tour-de-force, great at high volume, but a seat-belt is recommended! "Indigo" is one of the most hauntingly beautiful instrumentals I have ever heard. The later tracks have more conventional types of groups backing Bar Rashi - but it is in this context that one hears his awesome mastery of time. This guitarist does stuff with the time that would put most drummers to shame, but his son Yonatan does a super job on percussion and is also a virtuoso in his own right. Truly unique music, this CD is a real treasure.
