Charlie Parr plays a combination of original and traditional acoustic folk, delta and Piedmont-style blues and old-time (mountain) music, accompanying himself on 6- and 12-string guitars and dobro.
His influences include Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis, Dave Van Ronk, Koerner, Ray & Glover, and Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music.
At BARN AID, Charlie was joined by his friend Mikkel, who very aptly plays some of funkiest percussive instruments we've ever seen (including parts from a vintage refrigerator).
Charlie's recent self-titled independent release has received positive reviews. The 15-song CD includes original material as well as traditional songs using Parr's arrangements.
********
Jeff White & The Front Porch bring you an edgy roots/rock and country/folk sound. Blending influences such as Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, Leon Redbone, Hank Williams and even the Muppet Band (to name a few), they have quickly earned a reputation among audiences for having a fun, unique and modern style.
The band hails from the University town of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, but they've been playing regionally of late, and they gain waves of fans each time they perform. This spring, the band played two weeks of competition to win a date at Summerfest in Milwaukee.
Frontman Jeff White has been writing songs since his early teens. His penetrating lyrics and earthy voice have struck a rich chord with audiences, and he has been a local success since his first band, Milktruck. With Milkltruck, Jeff had the pleasure of recording at the legendary Big Mama Recording Studios in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Jeff will be releasing his solo CD titled "Til the Last String Dies" in May, 2001.
This band of young, highly talented musicians is poised to become a touring success and is "must see" for music lovers. Together, they take the audience on a musical adventure that leaves them cheering for more.

What can I say! Greg and Chalie at their best, enjoyed Jeff also.
author: Stiffy RobisonI have been lucky to hear Greg for the last 12 years now and ever since grad school in Iowa I can't remeber a better show then the small shows he did at the Mill. Billy from the hills on this disk is one of the best recordings I have. Lazy bones and Union tramp are both great too.. But the album as a whole is a must for all.
Great album from the first listen

A wonderful album to save a part of a community!
author: Jack GubancToo often today, entertainers are in the news for embarassing themselves and at times their families and fans. With Barn Aid, this group of musical entertainers once again proves that the arts will always have a place in our society and when called upon, conscientous artists and their fans can make a difference within a community. The music is great and everyone has their hearts in the right place! The artists prove that music not only will "soothe the savage beast," but will also pay for the repair of an important landmark! Here's to more efforts such as this coming from more musicians and their fans! Buy this album and make your own small contribution.
