In 1996 Chris Black began writing songs and touring in and around New York City. He joined up with singer/songwriter Fred Gillen, Jr. and formed The Dirty Folk Revolution. They recorded and released their first CD, A Mind Is A Terrible Thing, in 1997. The CD was produced for under a 100 dollars and the two used buckets and spoons for percussion.
In 1998 Fred left the band and guitarist and songwriter Dave Grogan signed on. They released the second Dirty Folk Revolution CD, Waiting for June and and began touring Ireland and continental Europe. A year later Dave and Chris were joined by drummer Tomo and bassist J Mundok. Together they formed Poor Uncle Harry, recorded a 5 song CD, Repair Shop, and continued to play in Ireland until Chris left the band and hitchhiked to Brno, Czech Republic, where he released his solo acoustic CD, Blind.
In the spring of 2000 Chris joined bass player Indi and together they hitchhiked around Germany playing on the street and sleeping outside when necessary. In Ireland they met drummer Dearbhail O'Flynn who joined the band and toured the US with them for a summer.
When they got back to Brno Indi left the band and Dearbhail and Chris recorded the lo-fi CD Joe and then they moved back to Dublin. Chris played small clubs in Dublin and flew back to New York to record Bound with Fred Gillen, Jr. in 2004.
Now Chris is living in Brno and playing with drummer Daniel Zoss
