notes
Every so often a special recording arrives in your life. You realize from the first listening that it is something you will revisit over the months and years ahead. "Balkan Journeys Close to Home" is such an album.

Balkan Journeys is a moveable feast of virtuosity and dementia, a must-have for fans of pan-Turkish music.

Album Comments:
Traditional Turkish, Macedonian, Yugoslavian and Rom folk songs are brought together on this compilation by Canadian folk artist to recreate the sound of the Balkans in the New World. These rollicking tunes raise a glass of Mastika to celebrate life, love - requited and unrequited - and the power of song and dance to dissolve borders and distance.

I just discovered the CD by hearing it at CD-Baby and immediately ordered it twice, for me and for my friend. A week later I found it in my pillar-box and what a good surprise ! I like the fresh and strong voices and the superb harmonies. With this great compilation you can really feel the atmosphere of the music of the Balcans. It's a good CD which we, my friend and myself, will often listen to. Thanks a lot.

TurnerFeverish 7/8 and 11/8 time signatures, hypnotic embellishments and alluring, "closed" harmonies of this riveting CD will seize your senses and stir the coals of your musical fires underneath. Traditional Turkish, Macedonian, Yugoslavian and Romanian folk songs, celebrating life and love, are brought together on this compilation CD by a Canadian Folk artist. Employing traditional instruments, voices and drums, the magical sounds of Balkan Journeys are a feast for the ear.
