- Wanda Fischer, host of "Hudson River Sampler", WAMC, Albany, NY
"For those who can't get enough of sea chanteys, hornpipes, and ballads sung raw-whiskey pure, (this CD) is a 16 course banquet ... lusty 3-part harmonies and a rich variety of instrumental sounds." - Chronogram Magazine
"A wonderful piece of work ... love those harmonies."
- Bill Hahn, host of "Traditions", WFDU, Teaneck, NJ
Take a trip back in time along the Hudson River, as this stringband trio guides you through the ports and aboard the boats of America's first freshwater superhighway. You'll hear songs and tunes from canawlers and whalemen, lumberjacks and landlubbers, sloop captains and steamboat crews. Listen to the music they made below deck, along piers, in the dockside taverns and inns, and back home with their families and friends. Comprised mostly of traditional songs, there are also a few contemporary accounts about the life of the "inland sailor" as well.
With 16 tracks and nearly a full hour of music, this CD showcases the full range of The Boys' musical diversity, from lively instrumental medleys, to intricate 3-part harmony vocals with multi-instrument arrangements, to work shantys sung acapella. Instruments include tenor and 5-string banjo, concertina, fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, mandolin, pennywhistle, and standup bass.
