Infectious, left me humming the tunes all day.
author: Doug BackI really liked this CD. Betty has a great voice which is backed up by the multi-instrumental talents of Bakey Baker, who himself does very tasteful fills and backup using a multitude of stringed instruments. Their rendition of Sukiyaki is the highlight for me, and worth the price of the CD by itself.
Now dat's music!
author: Reverend GI was falsely under the impression that Tony Clifton was the greatest entertainer in the world. Now my opinion has changed. Not because Tony spat on me once in a dark alley but it's the fact that I listened to this charming CD by Bakey n Betty. I don't know what went on at the Baker Motel nor do I want to, but call it musical magic that evolved from that hallowed 1 room rest stop. These two wizards, one of vocal and washboard, the other of breakdancing and all stringed instruments just delight with toe tapping tunes, harmonies and melodies. Right or wrong, you simply cant go wrong stopping by this musical yard sale. If I still had my thumbs one of them would be high in the air for this effort!
BETTY AND BAKEY ARE A MUST FOR YOU CD LIBRARY!
author: Matthew GoseThose two musical wizards, Betty and Bakey, have created one magical CD – a veritable potpourri of musical styles with clever, inventive arrangements. HIGHTLIGHTS INCLUDE: • a hauntingly beautiful version of SUKIYAKI (no English translations here) sung by Betty with poignancy and pathos. Bakey adds a perfectly-colored musical palette that deftly encapsulates the nostalgia of this fine tune • San Francisco Bay Blues – Betty and Bakey are in fine form. The buoyant chemistry between the two performers is exceedingly evident. A fun old tune enhanced by a masterful, mirthful arrangement • Two Tom Collins Tipsy – an unabashedly clever new tune which treats a familiar situation with the humor it deserves. Witty, yet blunt lyrics combined with stellar solo and harmony vocals mesh perfectly with the playful, yet slightly sultry instrumentation Upon listening to this CD, there will be no doubt that Betty and Bakey are talents of monumental proportions. Betty’s golden-throated song stylings must be heard to be believed. Her vocal versatility is a wonder to behold! Bakey is the instrumental master – it is apparent that there is no instrument that he can’t conquer and master (and he croons quite well, too). Give yourself a break and snap up this CD right away – many fine hours of musical bliss await you!
This is the most charming fun CD I've heard in a while
author: Bob PattersonI came across this CD by a banjo player friend of mine. These guys are so much fun to listen to, the music is old timey novelty and swing tunes. And they're great tunes! Tight vocal harmony, persistant swing, and that Bakey guy can play any instrument in the world! You can't go wrong buying this CD. Do yourself a favor.
