notes
The Short Songs project was written primarily in 2005. Amanda had the help of a few wonderful musicians. Charlie Banacos, her teacher, has been a great inspiration and source of amusement. Peter Slavov, Vardan Ovsepian and Aaron Parks all contributed to the arrangements and to Amanda’s confidence in the project. The full-length album was recorded at the Peter Karl Studio in May 2005. Amanda prides herself in her all-star band, Aaron Parks/piano, Keith Ganz/guitar, Peter Slavov/bass and Kendrick Scott/drums. Keith Ganz mixed the album and it was mastered at DB Studios in New York. Tal Goretsky designed the CD jacket cover and Aram Jibilian took the photos.
About Amanda:
Born in Santa Cruz and grew up in Sunnyvale, California (the heart of Silicon Valley). Went to UC Davis after high school to study engineering. Joined a Jazz/Swing/Ska band called the Irradicats and fell in love with Ella Fitzgerald. Her new interest in jazz singing led her to Berklee College of Music where she got a degree in Professional Music. Supporting herself through college Amanda sang at many many restaurants, bars, clubs, weddings and cruise ships (evening tours around Boston Harbor). Eventually she moved to Paterson, New Jersey because of a great deal and its close proximity to New York. In Paterson she wrote the bulk of the music for “Short Songs (EP)”, her debut release. Amanda currently lives in Harlem, teaching, writing and practicing Bikram yoga. Amanda sings with her band in New York and with the Vadim Neselovskyi Group.

short songs
author: aaron j. pollerThis little cd is sensational. I had the good fortune to see Amanda live in Winston-Salem about 2 weeks ago and have been listening ever since. My heart has just about melted away. Amanda's voice is georgous, sensual and enchanted. Every song here is a knockout and I can't wait to hear the full cd. The arrangements are terrific although I admit I can hear some horns that are not there in a few spots. But mostly these songs are hot and their creator is on fire. They suck all the oxygen right out of the room and leave you breathless. Amanda has put her vulnerability on display and we must all respond with enthusiastic support because this is the real deal and she needs to know how much her talent means and how far she has already reached. And although I'm an old guy, this music makes me feel young, in love, and hopeful for the human race.
Timeless "Up On The Roof"
author: Nelia Peck"Up on the Roof" has a timeless quality that amazes. But I have to say my favorite is Amanda's take on Cole Porter's "Everytime We Say Goodbye". The sweet melancholy tones and pacing Amanda gives to this song never fail to take me to that soft spot in my heart and release sweet forgotten longings.
Recurring Dream
author: Tommy HabetzI have this recurring dream where I am lying in a field of pussy willows, eating pumpkin pie. Every so often a unicorn goes galloping by, draped in pearl necklaces. The unicorns drink from a lake of rootbeer floats. The music playing from the flowers is Amanda Baisinger.
Touches my Joni Soul
author: vickyharris.comThe way Amanda sings "it's riding high and it's riding low" touches my Joni soul. Beautiful natural voice with great warmth & depth with an easy feeling to it. "These Days" is on Repeat. I look forward to the release of the full album. Congrats!

Transports you to a different place..
author: LizThe samples are enough to convince me I need this CD in my collection..sounds a little like Corrinne May...unique voice..when i close my eyes i could actually picture myself on the deck of a summer beach house with a cocktail with a lover under the stars...

As vulnerable as a woman could sound when sharing her thoughts about love, relationships and life. Clearly Amanda has heard the past singers of note and has her own way. She dominates the tracks by the under-stated presence of her beautiful and lush vocals. Bring on the full CD.

"...resonates with the sound of greatness"
author: KuduRecordsThe other day I asked my mentor about techniques I could use to do this or that in my art, he replied, 'Just make it good'. Amanda Baisinger does just that on this debut cd--'makes it good', very good. Short Songs resonates with the sound of greatness. Like a precious novel that is timeless, this collection of songs is one that you can visit again and again. It has more to give with every listen. Plus, you feel you are in good hands--with such a talented band and Amanda's beautiful, warm and welcoming voice, it makes creating such gorgeous sounds seem easy. Amanda Baisinger is one of the most talented and unique voices I've heard in a long time. Thanks Amanda!

It is music that grows on you. I listen to it every day together with 4 other CDs that keep me company at home while I'm working on my computer or doing my chores.

author: Pilar WhitmoreMy favorite is "Up On The Roof". It's uniquely original. A new age folk. Frivolous yet serious. Casual yet profound. Very John Irving. A spontaneous musical expression of the sign of the times - noise, traffic, war. WHEN WILL IT ALL STOP!

With stunningly smoky vocals reminiscent of Paula Cole, the lilt of Joni Mitchell and the lush, jazzy warmth of Norah Jones, Amanda Baisinger enchants her listeners with a combination of elegance, emotion and sophisticated artistry. Her voice slides gently over liguid melodies, the resonance filling in all the little pockets of harmony that dance between pop, jazz and folk. Always, there is a beautiful, exquisite haze that fills the air when her music begins. Whether it's a soundtrack to an evening of candelight or thoughtful driving music you're after, "Short Songs" is one of the most quietly striking albums of its sort to grace our warehouse in ages.
