BAD FATHERS

Bad Fathers, currently located in Iowa City, have established an extreme reputation based as much on their offstage performance as for their stunning live sets. Known for their rambunctious partying and frequent nakedness, they have still managed to self produce 6 releases since formation in 1997. Bad Fathers have performed all over the U.S. with acts such as Ja Rule, DJ #0 of Slipknot, Rakim, Atmosphere, Pharcyde, Naughty By Nature, and Sage Francis. Bad Fathers recordings have featured DJ #0, 2002 Scribble Jam Champion DJ Skwint, DJ Vadim, and numerous others. 2003's Swallow for Iowa vinyl generated a solid college radio buzz, charting as high as #1 on several U.S. charts.

- Rosemary Records has produced the Luca Moved Upstairs compilation featuring Sage Francis, Taylor Mali, Cousin and Governor Auto Funkstar of Bad Fathers, academic giant Joe Wenderoth, 4 time National Poetry Slam winner Patricia Smith, L.A. poet Goddess Rachel Kann, etc. The CD was part of the official welcoming at the 2003 National Poetry Slam.

    This album is very good. I heard of these guys through a friend so I bought the CD and it was well worth it. I suggest if you are into rap at all, you must get this CD.

    "Go Poke A Hole In Yourself" , delivers an energy fueled album, with a rapid face, occasionally slowed down by various comical interludes, such as "Bring Me The Pussy". The album kicks off with "January", pure hiphop, with each artist blending seemingly into the next, producing a smooth flowing, with a slower tempo chorus before again accelerating into the next verse. "Too fat To Strip" (follows the catchy chorus of "Animal Testing") , has been charting as high as number 1 on several U.S radio charts. It consists of a good strong beat in conjunction with the high-tempered lyrics , which more or less typifies the entire feel and direction of the album. "She" is one of my personal favourites displaying fluctuating tempos linking slow-rock with HipHop and concluding with a combination of both to reach a high climax. This 'HipHop Meets Rock' concept is evident in the majority of tracks from the album, with both styles succeding and orchestrated with respect to the other. Personally I feel the energetic and aggressive tone are illustrated more during the fist half of the album, slowing down as the albums ending approaches. This gives the listener, the feeling that the album is slowly losing speed and coming to a close. The beat fading in the last tracks instrumental concludes "Go Poke A Hole In Yourself" and comes to an end like the last beat of a heart. Overall the Bad fathers inspire and produce a lively album, with few poor tracks, if any, and an entertaining listen down to the very last beat.
