notes

Following on from the success of Misturada 3, remixes of Azymuth’s ‘Woodland Warrior’ LP, Far Out Recordings are pleased to announce the completion and release of ‘ Pieces of Ipanema’.

Azymuth are Jose Roberto Bertrami (keyboards), Alex Malheiros (bass and guitar), Ivan Conti (drums and percussion) and formed in the early seventies.

They came to global recognition through a series of LPs released on Milestones Records in the 70s & 80’s. Tracks like Jazz Carnival, Dear Limeritz and Papa Song have become dance-floor classics (sampled by DJ/producers), that left them with a cult reputation.

The group separated for several years as the members persued solo careers and they reformed in the mid-nineties, signing to Far Out Recordings. Since then, they’ve re-established themselves and put their music back to their audiences that always loved and cherished their sound. This is the third LP on F.O.R. from this unique and timeless group and features some of the best material to date. It takes them back to their roots and each track has been carefully selected to expose Azymuth’s wide musical scope. Tracks like ‘Carambola’, ‘Mimosa’ and the title track ‘Pieces of Ipanema’ should rank along with the classic tracks mentioned above.

Recorded in Rio De Janeiro, this LP captures the authenticity, feeling and spirit of their sound to great effect. You’ll find subtle shades of disco, jazz, funk & samba on this recording and other friends guesting on the LP include ‘Nina Miranda’ from ‘Smoke City’, ‘Orlandivo’ & ‘Sabrina Malheiros’
