notes
New York's AwRY is a refreshing ode to the delight of nighttime. Bandleader Shara Worden has an incredible knack for crafting awe-inspiring songs of intricate rhythm and lusciously dark melody. Aside the spacey guitar ambiance of bandmate Shane Yarbrough, Worden invokes a primal understanding of emotion with her soprano voice and gushing willingness to put it all on the table. Like a darkly organic Portishead, AwRY's music is like staring at your pond reflection on a lonely and moonlit night. Beauty like this doesn't come around very often. - Eric Elbogen, Digital City New York

Powerful voice, versatile. Difficult to categorise. Love it.
author: Marilyn CunliffePowerful voice and versatile, reminds me a little of Laura Nyro - every track different. Like the first track best. Would be interested in information about the artist/s and other work
A Powerful and Melodic Sound
author: Michelle S.Soft and fierce all at once. Darkly beautiful, and unapologetically so. Shara Worden has a voice that soars and soothes. This album simply is what it is and it's brilliant.
Phenomenal!
author: EchoAn amazing album! Everyone should experience this. Sweet, sensual, at times angry...overall the full spectrum of human emotion, portrayed in all of it's glory. I wept. I loved it.
Wonderfully Exhilerating
author: A Music FanSimply one of the most required CD's for anyone who loses themselves in brilliant music...
Excellent - dazzling, saving music! Restoring all my friends faith! So original!
author: Tristen DeschainI heard about these guys from a friend in the States. I am from New Zealand and spreading the word down here about Awry! Enchanting tunes. A fabulous mystique. Brilliant art work on web page also. Great to here something so original neslted amoungst so much crap in the industry right now. Artists like Awry are literally SAVING music. Thanks! So inspiring!
Sublime vocals with a dark, open, headphone friendly overall sound.
author: Chris RussellWhat would Jeff Buckley sound like if he was a women with a classically trained singing voice? The answer is Shara Worden of the New York City band 'Awry'. From the moment you hear the first track of Awry's self-titled debut album, you know you’re in for something special. I found myself wondering if I was indeed listening to something so incredibly fresh and new, I'd become the envy of all my friends. And I believe I was right. Everyone likes Awry(!) with their crisp production, glorious spacey sound and precise rhythms. Okay, so sometimes you get lost deep inside the forest of their unstructured, brooding musical beauty, buy hey, that’s a good thing! We need more bands like this. I must say though, every time I listen to the album I feel an overwhelming feeling of intellectuality come sweeping over me, this is probably due to the somewhat operatic feel I get from each song. Excellent stuff!
What are words for?
author: Karen Cole!I think I've finally decided that it's pointless for me to try & describe w/words why certain music means what it does to me. The only thing I really need to know is whether or not it moves me, & the Orange record certainly does that. Is music not divine in this? Is there really anything else?
The music walks with beauty; the voice is beauty.
author: E. S. AndersonBreathtaking. One is tempted to identify this music as celestial, but it originates from the body. Its abundance of rhythmic invention is organic not calculated. Being so grounded it can be both atmospheric and driving: floating bands of clouds brushing against the sky. And then there is the voice. The voice. It soars above the clouds, dives beneath them, caresses them, parts them. This music walks with beauty; the voice is beauty.
Feel Like a Bad *ss
author: Cameron DezenSweeping, moving, and divinely inspired, Awry kicks out the jams like no other. Shara is my hero.
Gorgeous Glitter Dark
author: SeverinaI was honestly unprepared for how lemony fresh this CD truly is...from the very first sweeping etherial-moan track "Madwoman", which I think is my favorite...if I can *pick* a favorite...not sure I can do that because from start to finish this is simply captivating!I find myself hitting the *back* button so that I can hear all the exotic deep musical layering...I find new little glittering treasures each time I hear these songs, I adore this dark haunting music and I'm already finding myself clueing in my friends about it. Smashing work, the rest of you figgy beauties make sure you don't miss this one!
This cd brings comfort with sadness, and I want to live.
author: A. BogsWhen I listen to Awry I hear my breath. My belly expands and a thin voice crawls on my spine. I know what it feels like to hurt and sing, and I sing along. I will sleep better tonight!
