"On what may be the ultimate kid-parent crossover album, Audra Tsanos and her punked-out band of (mostly) parents serve up energizing rhythms, catchy melodies, and slyly witty lyrics. The songs celebrate the wild, devil-may-care side of the preschool years, but not without sympathy for the grown-ups presiding over the ruckus. ("I'm gonna sit and read this book/but now I wanna run/It's been a great time doing this/But that really looks like fun/I've got a short attention span!") As kids dance to the fast paced "Sugar High" or the instructional "Pick Things Up," Mom and Dad will be nodding knowingly— if they're not rocking along themselves, that is. Every track has a bit of rebellion for both generations. What could be more punk that that?"

—Cookie Magazine (rated a 3 out of 3)

"Led by Brooklyn mom Audra Tsanos, AudraRox has earned a legion of loyal fans thanks to it's colorful, high-energy live shows. The band's long awaited new CD—which comes fully loaded with the same blow-the-roof-of-the-playhouse quality as it's concert performances—will more than satisfy devotees, and should create plenty of new Roxheads as well. The group's undeniable punk edge is evident on nearly every track; you can practically hear the leather and tattoos. Frankly, the members possess more street cred than any children's musicians should rightfully have, and they'd probably be playing CBGB if their songs didn't revolve around sit n' spins and eating broccoli.
But make no mistake, this is a kids' band: Infectious melodies, sing-a-long (or in some cases, shout-a-long) choruses, and Tsanos's impeccably smooth vocals will have even the youngest toddlers bouncing. The lyrics speak directly to children, but not without a wink to mom and dad, especially on tracks like "Short Attention Span," "Sugar High" and "Pro-cras-tin-a-ting" ("That's a long word which means you're busy doing nothing"). It's a rare CD that can appeal equally to a serious rock purist and his 4-year-old daughter. AudraRox proves once and for all that pre-schoolers and guitar solos do mix."

"Based in New York City and led by mother of two Audra Tsanos, AudraRox strikes a punk pose -- a leather-jacketed, hair-streaked elementary school student poses on the cover of their debut album I Can Do It By Myself!, released earlier this month. But make no mistake, their music is more pop than punk.

Which is by no means a put-down when the pop is as finely tuned as it is here. One of the stand-out tracks is a 2-minute slice of power-pop goodness called "Tired," which sounds a bit like the Replacements (if the Replacements had three women doing vocals). On the New Wave-styled titled track, Tsanos channels the Missing Persons' Dale Bozzio. The band also runs through other styles -- country ("I Hope My Mama Says YES!"), funky blues ("Where's My Shoes Blues"), disco, etc -- and sounds great doing 'em all. And not only does the band sound great, they all have assorted songwriting credits on the album.

Lyrically, the album tackles typical 6-year-old concerns -- the effects of rough-housing ("All My Toys Are Broken") or begging for a little extra parental indulgence ("I Hope My Mama Says YES!"). The songs are mostly written in the first person, so the young listeners will grasp on easily, but there are enough sly bits to hook the parents. I was particularly amused by how the band turned the plaintive phrase "everybody's havin' more fun than we are" into a whole song that ever so gently chides the child that uses it. And the only thing better than a 7-minute song about procrastination ("I'm gonna button my coat so I don't catch a cold / I'll do it in a minute, but first, I'll sing the chorus" -- how very meta) is a good 7-minute song about procrastination.

Given the lyrical focus, it's targeted right at kids ages 4 through 8. You can hear samples at the CDBaby page for the album.

In its willingness to explore a whole bunch of pop and rock styles, I Can Do It By Myself reminds me -- in a good way -- of Ralph's World albums. It's energetic and lots of fun, speaking to kids without ignoring the parents in the back of the room. Recommended."

When I first heard "Don't Wake the Baby" on WXPN I thought it had been writen for my family. My two year old son loves "singing" it to his baby brother(while he's sleeping of course). We've had lots of fun listening to this entire album.

Awesome CD! My 3 year old daughter saw the video on Jack's Music Show and asked me, "Can you buy this song for me online?" She dances around our living room and loves all of the songs...when the music is over, her one year old little brother says, "MORE!" Audra's voice sounds like the vocalists from Mary's Danish so...mommy enjoys listening too!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this album!
author: EMWard (Mom to 2 pint-sized fans!)

I bought this album after seeing Audra Rox on Jack's Big Music Show and I have to admit that not only do my kids love this cd, but so do my husband and I! I love that it covers several musical genres, and although it's kid friendly, it's not insipid, stupid, annoying music. I just wish they were coming to the DC area for a concert or class - we'd be there IN A MINUTE!!!

  • We love it!

  • Awesome; edgy yet wholesome
author: Veronica (mommy of a 3-year old music lover)

We heard Audrarox on Jack's Big Music Show on the Noggin channel and had to track down the "I Hope My Mamma Says Yes" song. The rest of the album is more edgy and innovative that the standard children's music fare and that is a good thing. Thanks for the musical ackowledgement that not all mommies live in Stepford, but we all share similar experiences with our kids (lost shoes, sugar highs and meltdowns over missed tire swing rides).

  • Excellent and innovative approach to childrens music

My husband, 2 yr old daughter and I LOVE the song "I Hope My Mama Says Yes". We listen to it over and over... we also find "Sugar High" to be cute as well. You are sure to love this CD for your little one(s).

  • AudraRox is the best kids album out there!
    author: Miriam

AudraRox I Can Do It By Myself is one of the best kids cd's out there today! It takes you through a variety of sounds and rythm's and makes me laugh. My son now sings "I hope my mama says yes" to me with a twinkle in his eye. AudraRox has got kids down! And it's a cool little "album" to boot!

  • One of our new FAVORITES!!!
    author: Pottymomma

We absolutely love this cd. My kids actually pick up the house every night after dinner as long as I will play this cd and we all dance to it. Fun times! It rocks!!!

  • This CD is great!
    author: Liz

I listened to all my toys are broken and it is a great song-It sounded love it had bits and pieces of The Who and Pink Floyd-I love 'I hope my mama says yes!' and 'don't wake the baby' You have now become part of our every day routine! William freaks out whenever the CD player becomes his and starts running the second you come on until the second the music is off! It is amazing to me because he loves music but usually it is heavy metal like Slipknot, Tool, or Korn! I think that it is great.

  • Fantastic album

My husband and I both love this one. (DS is only 19 months old, so hard to tell what he thinks of it yet). The music and song lyrics are fun and often funny. We'll look for more music from AudraRox.

  • We sing together and laugh...it just fits our life!
    author: Harrison's Mom

It really fits what we are going through with a preschooler. We can laugh and sing together about the mood swings of a 5 year old!!! Plus the music is cooler than toddler music. My personal favorite is I hope my Mamma says yes- you wrote this for me!

  • Music you will enjoy listening to, as much as your kids will.
    author: Linda

As a preschool teacher I really love this cd. When you have to be subjected to the Wiggles and Barney too much it can be refreshing to put on some children's music that I enjoy as much as they do. My favorite song's have to be 'Sugar High' or {the fast one} as my students call it, and 'Pro-cras-tin-ating'.

  • author: Jodi

I think this will be one of my daughter's favorites. Right now, we're not past track 2, as she keeps wanting to listen to those first 2 songs over and over. I took a sneak listen after that, and am sure she'll enjoy the others just as much. A very fun CD!

  • I love it as much as my kids do!
    author: Dina

i'm shocked at how much these songs resonate with me! my husband and i give each other a "wink, wink" during each song. it seems like the songs were written as a sort of witty commentary on being a parent, even as my kids feel completely represented by them and just love dancing and singing along to them. i'm from the catskill mountains and was worried that the songs were going to be too city-based for my country-based boys, but this album answers the needs of kids and parents living, playing, eating too much sugar, breaking toys or procrastinating everywhere. you owe it to your kids to buy this album, but you owe it to yourself just as much! Fun as all heck!

  • Absolutely Rox!
    author: Judy

This is one of the best cds I have ever gotten for my son (and me), who is now 6. The songs have such a great beat, you wouldn't know you were listening to a kids cd til you listened to the lyrics. And the lyrics make you laugh (or at least smirk to yourself) cause it is all so relevant to all kids. I will be buying more copies to give friends as holiday gifts.
