notes
A note from the artist:
The Voice of the mystics is the Voice of God calling us back to our True Self, the Song of the One Spirit calling us to awaken, right now. While the actual expressions of this mysterious call may vary in language, texture, nuance, and rhythm, at its core, its message is singular and one: though we are the great ocean of Love that has become all forms, we have forgotten who and what we truly are, asleep to all the magnificence that is roaring through the cosmos and our hearts in this very moment. Distracted by the myriad dramas of our personal lives -- our fears, our desires, our ambitions -- we remain blind to the brilliance that stands before us. The voice of the mystics challenges us to empty ourselves of all fixed notions of who and what we are, that we might awaken to the fullness of Life. In this fullness, which is God, there is no seeking, no desiring, only the spontaneous outpouring of a Love that consumes all ignorance and suffering in its holy flames.
The Music of John Astin
John Astin's music takes me to a place where inspiration and creativity flow - to a place, in other words, that's divine.
--Larry Dossey, MD
John creates a musical vehicle of awesome beauty and pure spiritual intention that delivers the listener straight to the heart. He is a gift in the truest sense of the word- one of those rare souls with the ability to
reconnect us to the Divine Source.
-- Joan Borysenko, PhD
John's evocative songs are like a beautiful garland of remembrance, a musical call to awaken to the Truth of who we are and express that Radiance in the world.
--Ken Wilber
John Astin began his musical career at the age of seven. For the next 12 years, he studied classical guitar, a period highlighted by the five summers he attended the Aspen Music Festival. In Aspen, he was the youngest of the guitarists invited to perform in the master classes of the great Italian maestro Oscar Ghiglia (a prote'ge' of Andres Segovia).
At the age of nineteen, John began his work as a singer/songwriter, and in 1982 released his first of eight recordings of original spiritual and contemplative music. His signature song, "Love, Serve, and Remember," has been recorded by a number of artists and is used (along with much of his other music) in workshops, spiritual retreats, and healing seminars around the world.
Along with his musical work, John holds a PhD in psychology. He is currently a research scientist at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco where he conducts cutting edge research in the field of mind-body medicine.

simply beautiful
John's music has touched my heart for nearly two decades. I have to say that Voice of the Mystics is my favorite. The way he's put poetry and chants to song is splendid. So much gratitude!
Lovely, lovely, lovely! Did I mention lovely?!
author: PresenceFirst off, besides my admiration and appreciation for John Astins lyrical content and soul-light, that illumines all his material/songs, I adore a couple of the songs on this CD enough to make it worth the whole purchase. It is not my favorite of his, but again, a few of the songs make it well worth the purchase! Plus, supporting methaphysical/spiritual songwriter is great for the soul, and good carma! ;o)
uplifting, music for the soul
