notes
Ashburne Glen began in 2001 as a solo vehicle for Jason Hensel, then lead singer of Dallas-based band The Last Drop.
In 2002, Ashburne Glen released its debut album, "Making Aeroplanes of Our Bodies." Initial reaction was positive, shows were booked, and Hensel’s primary band was put on permanent hiatus to concentrate more on Ashburne Glen.
In 2003, the band entered The Echo Lab studio to record the next Ashburne Glen album with former Little Grizzly member Matt Barnhart producing. Several of Hensel’s friends in other bands contributed to the album, including Lance Pilgrim (the Shapes), Chad Stockslager (the Drams), Sean Kirkpatrick (the pAper chase), and Joe Cripps (Brave Combo).
"It’s All Just a Dirty Game" is the final product of that recording session. As Ashburne Glen’s second album, it highlights the band’s forward progress toward a more hi-fi sound while retaining the intimate charm of bedroom pop. For comparison’s sake, the band is similar to such artists as Belle & Sebastian, Wilco, or Elliott Smith covering the Cure.
