notes

Arthi Meera's vocal-centric, stripped-down sound is likely the result of a background in North Indian classical voice and a steady diet of Britpop and shoegaze since adolescence. Combining her gentle pop tendencies with producer Ethan Stoller's experimental leanings, her debut reflects a selection of influences unique to her.

I know that the point of folksy music is to "rock" and not to "soothe" but still, the music is soothing and I appreciate that. I also really like the clear, honest, unnaffected way she sings as well as her guitar playing.

  • ethereal haunting melodic awesome

I'm in awe of this CD. I love the minimalist instrumentation. Arthi's voice is so pure and haunting, it puts me in a trance each time I hear it. And, because the CD has been playing non-stop, I've heard it a lot lately!

  • Beautiful, haunting, ...with yearning melodies and intricate chord progressions

I love this album. And I love very few albums. And I write even fewer reviews (please forgive my awkwardness...) This album was produced by Ethan Stoller (Dynamite Ham, V for Vendetta closing credits song), and the combo of their talents is a perfect match. The subtle instrumentation is absolutely beautiful and the whole album has a dreaminess to it that is like a liquid lullaby (fluid and floating...). My favorite song is Pink and White and Grey, though many others are competing w/ it for #1 the more I listen. This will be in my small rotation of necessity CDs. Oh and did I mention Arthi's voice? She has one of those voices that stays with you--like you want to hear her do a cover of every song you know. My only reason for 4 stars (instead of 5) is that the lyrics are not always ones I personally connect with, especially mid-album, as much of it is about the struggles of loving or wanting someone unattainable (my quick description, though i hate to sum anything up! sorry!). But many songs use very interesting imagery and metaphor (Silty Sea, Pink and White and Grey), or have lyrics that are compelling and/or soothing (Wander Away, The Worse Crime, In My Head).

  • Great stripped-down melodic pop music.

Meera's got a great ear for a catchy melody, and her stripped-down pop ballad sensibility makes for a record I can't stop listening to. I highly recommend it.

  • amazing!

Absolutely magic cd... arthi's voice is single-handedly responsible for the melting of the polar ice caps, never-you-mind mr. gore. Stunningly minimalist without being boring; complex songwriting that you don't need to pore over deciphering to enjoy (but fully capable of it if so desired)... can't wait for the next one!

  • Wonderful

Meera's entire CD is beautiful! She's has the loveliest voice and great music. Received the CD from CDBaby as promised...quick and well packaged. Thank you.

  • To sum it up in one word, I'd choose "Heavenly."
    author: ReBecca

Arthi Meera has the voice of a goddess and puts it to good use on this album. Each track has it's own personality. The music is unique and magical, but the vocals gently dominate the overall experience. Its beautiful and worth twice the price.

  • As soon as it ends I listen to it again...

I've had Arthi Meera's album playing on a loop for about 10 days now. I am compelled to say how moved I am by it, possibly because she sings of sentiments that resonate with me, describing situations I have been through and understand (or so I like to imagine as I lose myself in the haunting melodies...), but more probably because the combination of her breathtakingly pure voice, her intelligent, compassionate words (oh so very human & honest) and the excellent sound production stuns me every time I listen. Quite possibly one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard; somehow it manages to speak to both the 14 year old and 112 year old that exist in me...

  • Truly beautiful
    author: Ozzie

I absolutely loved your album. The vocals are so melodious and haunting with just enough background music. Not so much to over power the voice, but enough to complement it beautifuly. I hope that you contiue to make albums. If they are anything like this one, they are sure to be a great success.
