notes

Thanks for visiting. My name is Ari Koinuma, and Aries9 is my progressive modern rock project.

Darkness Reveals the Beauty of Truth is the first half of a loosely thematic song collection, centering around one man's struggle and disillusionment with his world.

It's a diverse rock record that gets better with repeated listens. The songs are quite different from each other, so try them all. (you can listen to the whole thing at aries9.com, if the excerpts here leave you wanting more)

Please do me a favor. Try them more than once.

Because these songs don't always do what you expect them to. But those are the songs that may grow on you.

If you're too busy to listen to all, use this guide as a starting point:

-Looking for "singles": #3 Tiny Toon, #5 Half Step
-Heavy rockers: #2 Diamond Sleeps Tonight, #1 Shark
-Prog rock fans: #2, #10 Lucy Struck Out

So far, I've received strong responses from visual artists (painters, photographers, etc.) and smart high school students. My most loyal fans are 8:2 women to men. (Don't ask me why)

Everything you hear was played and recorded by me. But it sounds like a well-gigged band. That said, I left many imperfections in, to ensure the humanity of the record.

My songs sound like nobody else's. I have my influences, sure, but I have created my own style.

If you buy the CD or mp3s and don't like it, send me an e-mail. I'll give you a refund.

Thank you for reading, and enjoy.

  • Exquisite !!
    author: Diane Lee Martin

An album with complexity, creativity and complete uniqueness.....Each song reveals something new every time you listen to it.....it's electric, eclectic, beyond the ordinary mundane rock-mill stuff.....it's dynamic and utterly creative. This album shows what pure ingenuity is all about, with it's deep flavor for melding tonality with tempo....for stretching the boundaries of the ordinary "to be expected" new artist album.....this is something to keep an eye on, and an ear on !! The album is quite frankly, spellbinding and magical in all respects....Ari is a master, and a force to be reckoned with....I await the next spectacular production...... So.....Try it, you'll really like it !!

  • Impressive

I'm impressed. This album manages to cover a lot of rock n' roll territory in a single--rockin'--piece of work. Nice.

  • Clever and inventive

This is a CD that's perfect to listen to on your own or as a great soundtrack for a party. It's clever and inventive and keeps you on your toes. Tiny Toon's my favorite.

  • Amazing

Ari may say it gets better over time -- and it most certainly does -- but the disc had me at first listen. It's heavy, but not in a disarming way. The perfect album to work -- or party -- to.

  • Better over time

I am impressed. Darkness Reveals the Beauty of Truth has not left my CD player since its arrival (Ok it did once, but that only lasted about half of a song)! And every time I listen to it, I pick up on little things here and there. Thanks!

  • great thoughtful rock
    author: Don H

You can hear all the influences, but this music is truly ari. There's no cliches here, which is so refreshing. Yes, there's acoustic guitar, and heavy guitar, this music rocks and challenges and yet doesn't sound like all of the clone-sound-alike bands on the radio these days. There's rockers here, and ballads. The lyrics are thought-provoking, not mindless. The music breathes, there's an ebb and flow, it's not verse/chorus/verse music by numbers. The weak point might be Ari's voice, but after a few listens you get past it (which happens with a lot of singers anyway, doesn't it?). Lots to capture your attention here folks.

  • This is where the good music went!

In this cd, Ari has created a musical buffet sure to please, dishing up rock, thrash, metal, and ballads with his own unique perspective. Everyone will find something to like here and most will want to put this cd on permanent rotation. The haunting "Cult" is my particular favorite, if one can choose from this outstanding collection. Ari can twist your emotions any way he pleases and after listening to "Darkness Reveals the Beauty of Truth", you'll be more than happy to succumb to his spell again and again.

  • Creative and Complex
    author: Ken Marsh

Once again I'm amazed what a talented composer / musician can do with a modest home recording studio. This sounds like a full band, but it's all Ari, his guitars and his gadgets! I like complicated music, and this disc has lots of details, creative touches and unexpected twists that pleasantly surprise me and keep my interest through repeated playings.

  • Amazing!

Wow! Man! I listened to the album, and it's fantastic. Nice edge to it. The first songs in particular has a very contemporary sound. I was having trouble placing influences on those. Reminiscent of early 90s Alt Rock. If you like STP or Soundgarden, you'll love this CD.
