notes
Matthias von Imhoff, music; Todd Hopkins, lyrics; Andrew Zbihlyj, artwork. von Imhoff is a drummer who has been very active in the European free improv scene and in the Quebec jazz scene. He is Canadian who lives in Switzerland, has recorded and toured with musicians as diverse as Gérald Zbinden, Mob Job, Gilles Aubry and the Sylvain Marcotte Trio. Like some other Swiss drummers he has moved to electronics. As a solo artist there is a definite rock inflection to his work. He follows up his first release Retreat with Mental Scars, a dark night of electro-acoustic rough poetry in song form including reflections on two personally scarring events, the death of his grandfather, radical serial composer Hermann Meier, and a frightening car accident. ARC 3.
