notes

4 well travelled friends: Oljeg, Desto, Tamara and Viktor are touring Europe. Born in the middle of Germany, the hot blood of their ancestors from Machorka Tabakistan infiltrated their veins.

Their assignment: To make the world west of Vladivostok aware of their wittily Balalakai Beat music from a tiny island long overseen by western pop culture.

The band plays together since 1988, with a highly energetic mix of russian folk music, ska, rock and polka. Their music rages over the audience like a Siberian storm, whipping it into
a joyful dancing throng.

Apparatschik is the first and most poular project from the new Russian
partyscene and they carry the ‘Russki’ spirit famously through Germany and beyond. With their current album they stick to their motto: Pulp Fiction meets Potemkin - an outrageous clash between tradition and modern.

Aurora is only the second CD from Apparatschik (the debut is from from 1994) and the band tackles the balance between being true to their roots and at the same time modernising their sound.. Rock guitars and reggae rhythms as well as electronic tinckering reveal a fresh new sound that doesn’t destroy the handmade feel of an exciting party music.

Aurora means ‘morning red’ and is also the name of the legendary tank that (according to the history books of the Soviet Union) fired the first shot at the Winterpalais in St. Petersburg and started the October Revolution in 1917. For Socialists, for Communists and Anarchists this marked a new beginning in human history, and an opening into a new era, where justice without manipulation should rule.

After the success of the first production „APPARATSCHIK“ the newly formed band can count on a growing fanbase all over Europe - leaving only one question unrevealed: where is Machorka Tabakistan anyway ?

A very HOT CD! Listen to 'Kalinuschka' and 'Daddy' to be convinced. If you want to have something different from the same old radio dial boredom, buy Aurora... it will soon become a favorite in your collection!

Based on a common denominator of spazzy, ultra-animated and frantically-playful carnival energy, Apparatschik specializes in Russian volxmusik, sped-up crazy polka, tangos and wholesome party-minded music that, once it gets started, doesn't stop to come up for air until the end of the last track. Wonderfully weird and counter culture, their mixing of rock, pop, reggae and any other genre that might happen to wonder into the palette at any given moment gives them the ability to keep their stylistic vocabulary broad while maintaining a distinctive voice and a specific sound world which they occupy incredibly well. Aurora is two tons of fun.
